Toy Story 5 is now in theaters and ruled its opening weekend at the box office. It also made a new franchise record. The film earned $160 million domestically at the box office. This was the biggest domestic debut at the box office, surpassing Super Mario Galaxy Movie and its $131.7 million opening weekend. The film also made a new franchise record. It supplanted Toy Story 4 and its $120 million opening weekend from 2019. On top of that, Toy Story 5 also had the second-largest animated opening weekend in history. This follows 2018’s Incredibles 2 and its $182.7 million. It also came in as the second strongest opening day for an animated feature with $71 million, right after Incredible 2’s $72.2 million.

Internationally, the film also saw success. It earned $152 million. This makes the global total an impressive $312 million. With the budget reportedly being $250 million, it is already on its way to recouping costs and turning a solid profit.

Toy Story 5 didn’t just set records at the box office, however. It also set one over at Rotten Tomatoes. It has the highest audience score in the franchise. The film has an 95% audience score and 94% critic score. Oddly enough, this is the lowest critic score in the franchise, albeit still a very good one.
