Chris Sanders to Direct ‘Lilo & Stitch 2’

Chris Sanders has a long history with Lilo & Stitch. He created the character of Stitch in 1985. Years later, he co-directed and co-wrote Lilo & Stitch (2002) with Dean DeBlois. In this film, he also provided the voice for Stitch. He then provided the voice for three sequels and three television shows before reprising the role in the live-action Lilo & Stitch (2025). Last year, it was revealed that Sanders would be writing the script for the sequel to this live-action film. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that he will also be directing Lilo & Stitch 2.

There is still a lot unknown about Lilo & Stitch 2. What is known is that it will be an original story. Sanders will again be voicing Stitch. Jonathan Eirich will be producing via Rideback. He also produced the live-action Lilo & Stitch. Ryan Halprin is executive producing for the company.

The live-action Lilo & Stitch made over $1 billion at the global box office. $423.7 million of that came from the domestic box office. It also had the biggest Memorial Day weekend box office opening of all time with $183 million. The film centers on a young girl who is lonely and finds a young dog that turns out to be an escaped alien who was engineered as a weapon.

This is not Chris Sanders’ first foray as a director. Along with co-directing the animated Lilo & Stitch, he also co-directed How to Train Your Dragon and The Croods. The first film that he directed on his own was The Call of the Wild with Harrison Ford. He also directed the Oscar-nominated film The Wild Robot for DreamWorks.
