On this day in 1936, the Mickey Mouse short ‘Thru the Mirror’ was released. After reading Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice Thru the Looking Glass,’ a dream-state version of Mickey goes through his mirror to a parallel world where everything is alive. He eats a magical walnut that turns him into a giant and then shrinks him down. Mickey dances with several objects in his room, ultimately angering the King by dancing with the Queen of Hearts. He has a thrilling battle before escaping to his bed with the alarm ringing. [90 years ago in 2026]
