Disney is making a live-action version of Tangled. This musical has already found its leads in Australian actress Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim of Disney’s Zombies franchise for the roles of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. Now, it has found its Mother Gothel. In January, Kathryn Hahn was in talks with Disney for the role. Now, those talks have apparently concluded as both Hahn and Disney have confirmed her participation in the film. The news was shared with the following post on social media:
This is not the first time that Hahn has played a darker magic role. She portrayed Agatha Harkness in WandaVision and Agatha All Along. This role earned her an Emmy nomination. She also earned a Golden Globe nomination for her portrayal.
The role of Mother Gothel is a delightful one that is both witty and has a great song, Mother Knows Best, that is very easy to imagine Hahn taking on. It is possible that more songs could be added to the live-action movie version of the film as well. Hahn has had extensive experience on television, the silver screen, and the theatrical stage throughout her career.
Hahn joins Teagan Croft and Milo Manheim in the live-action Tangled film from Disney. Teagan Croft has previously been seen as Raven in the DC series Titans. She also appeared in True Spirit as Jessica Watson. In this Australian film, she was a teenage sailor who attempted to go on a trip around the globe. The film streamed on Netflix in 2023. Milo Manheim is most well-known to Disney fans for his role in Disney Channel’s Zombies movies. He has also been in School Spirits on Paramount+ and Seymore in a revival of Little Shop of Horrors.
Disney’s live-action Tangled is being directed by Michael Gracey. He has previously directed other musical films, including Better Man and The Greatest Showman. Kristen Burr is producing the film after producing last summer’s Freakier Friday. She also produced Disney’s live-action Cruella in 2021. The script was written by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson. Previously, she has written scripts for Do Revenge and Thor: Love and Thunder.
