Tribute to Beloved Guest Appears on Main Street, USA

For many years, guests walking down Main Street, USA would pass a guy in a Dodgers regalia sitting on what was commonly referred to as the porch on the bench. Known as the Porch Potato, Frank sat there and made friends for many years at The Happiest Place on Earth. Some people endearingly called him the mayor of Main Street.

Sadly, Frank passed away last year at the age of 79. A friend to all, his absence has been felt by many people who visit Disneyland. This ranges from occasional guests who had encountered him, to regular guests and Magic Key holders, to the incoming CEO of The Walt Disney Company, Josh D’Amaro. His absence has been felt by the Disney community.

Recently, the bench that the Porch Potato spent so much time at disappeared. When it returned, a lovely tribute had been affixed to it in honor of Disneyland’s Porch Potato. The plaque that is now on the bench says it is from the “New Century Historical Society” and includes the following quote: “Every day is my best day.” This was known to be one of Frank’s favorite quotes. Daps Magic team member Steven stopped by Disneyland and took the following pictures of this tribute:

The New Century Historical Society began making appearances around Main Street, USA ahead of the kick off of the Disneyland Resort 70th Celebration last year. Plaques can be found around Main Street, USA next to several icons or places of interest. Now, the Porch Potato’s legacy will continue on as one of these places of interest at Disneyland.
