Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Reopens at Disneyland

Big Thunder Mountain has reopened at Disneyland. On Sunday, November 2, 2025, the beloved Frontierland attraction reopened with the park opening. A couple of hours later, it also was added to the Disneyland app. Then the attraction went down for a few hours before opening again in the early afternoon.

The attraction is more or less the same, with effects polished and a few slight changes here and there. The caverns at the beginning seemed darker, the waterfall at the top of that lift seemed less prone to splashing on guests with mist instead, and there might have been some updates to the bats in those caves as well. The trains seemed to be running smoothly when Daps Magic experienced the attraction. As is often the case after a refurbishment, everything just seemed a little bit more polished. Below is video of the reopening day of the attraction.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad Official Description

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Streak through a haunted gold mine aboard a speeding train on this thrilling coaster-style ride

Hang Onto Yer Hats!

Legend has it that after gold was discovered in the 1850s, eerie incidents took place in the mine. Trains would take off and race through tunnels… by themselves.

As you enter the cursed cavern, your train speeds up along the rickety track. Shoot under a booming waterfall and dodge a falling boulder from an unexpected landslide as you swoop around sharp turns and drop into desolate canyons.

On this rip-roaring adventure, you may learn that some legends turn out to be true…

Big Thunder Mountain first opened at Disneyland in 1979. For nearly 50 years since then, the attraction has taken guests on the “wildest ride in the wilderness.” It continues to be a favorite for many today!
