On August 14, 2025, Steve Martin celebrated his 80th birthday. The Only Murders in the Building Star didn’t spend it where one might expect, however. He spent it at The Happiest Place on Earth in the magic shop where he worked as a teenager. Martin shared at the Television Academy’s Televerse festival on Saturday that he was filming a scene at Disneyland.
“I shot a little one-day scene at Disneyland on my birthday, August 14, two days ago, and it was in the magic shop where I worked when I was 15,” he told the audience at an Only Murders in the Building Emmy FYC event at Televerse. “I’m standing on the exact same spot that I stood on when I was 15! And I said, ‘it’s like going to work when you’re 15, and then coming home from work and you’re 80.”
While Martin didn’t specify what he was shooting at Disneyland, it is very possible that it was a scene for Jon Favreau’s Oswald series for Disney+. The series has been shooting at Disneyland in recent weeks. This would also confirm a rumor that Martin is appearing in the series. Other stars that are a part of this project include Kathryn Hahn, Amy Sedaris, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Mykal-Michelle Harris, and Ryder Allen. Jon Favreau is both writer, executive producer, and director for Oswald. The series is being produced by the Walt Disney Studios.
At this point, there isn’t a release date for the Oswald series. This series is based on the character of Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, whom Walt Disney created before Mickey Mouse. What Steve Martin’s role is in the series (if it ends up being what this shoot was for) is also unknown. The last time that Steve Martin filmed something in the Magic Shop was for Disneyland: The First 50 Magical Years. This was presented in the Main Street Opera House for Disneyland’s 50th anniversary, 20 years ago.
