On this day in 2000, ‘Fantasia 2000’ opened theatrically after a four-month limited release in IMAX format. It was the successor to 1940s ‘Fantasia’ and included “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” as the only returning theme. Other memorable moments include gliding whales paired with “Pines of Rome,” “Rhapsody in Blue” set in 1930s New York City, “Pomp and Circumstance” with Donald Duck as an assistant at Noah’s Ark, and the “Firebird Suite” set in a magical forest.
