On this day in 2005, “The Muppets’ Wizard of Oz” first aired on ‘The Wonderful World of Disney.’ The TV movie was a modern adaptation of Frank L. Baum’s 1900 novel ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ and drew more from the book than the classic 1939 film. Ashanti starred as Dorothy Gale, a young singer in her Aunt Em’s diner who longs for fame. The film was the first major project for the Muppets after they transferred to the Walt Disney Company. [20 years ago in 2025]
