A Red Car Trolley that used to be able to be seen making its way through Disney California Adventure has found a new home. The trolley’s new home is at the Garner Holt Foundation. As described on their website, “The Garner Holt Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to increasing hope, igniting imagination, and inspiring creativity in the lives of young people through hands-on, career-focused learning experiences in the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.”
In a post on social media, it was revealed that car 623 is now a part of the collection of The Garner Holt Foundation. The trolley was donated by the Disneyland Resort to the non-profit organization. The post can be seen here:
Garner Holt is the founder of Garner Holt Productions and The Garner Holt Foundation. The company was started in his parents’ garage in 1977. Today, Garner Holt Productions has made more animatronic figures for theme parks than any other company.
The Red Car Trolley opened at Disney California Adventure in June 2012. It was inspired by the Pacific Electric Railway “Red Cars.” There were two trolleys that were in operation during the attraction’s run. Car 623 was inspired by the 600-series trolleys built by the St. Louis Car Company in 1922. Its paint scheme was similar to the “Hollywood” cars that were first delivered. The “23” in the car’s number referenced the year Walt Disney arrived in California, in 1923. Car 717 was inspired by the 700-750 series trolleys that were built by the J.G. Brill Company in 1925. It had a paint scheme similar to Pacific Electric’s Art Deco “wings” design. The 717 number on the car is a reference to Disneyland’s opening date.
The Red Car Trolley had its last operating day on February 8, 2025. Car 623 was the trolley that was in use for the final ride. The second Red Car Trolley that operated at Disney California Adventure is now found on Buena Vista Street, where it is now a photo opportunity.
At its new home at The Garner Holt Foundation, car 623 will “inspire the next generation of dreamers and doers to discover potential careers in STEM and STEAM.”
