The popular show Ted Lesso has been renewed for a fourth season by Apple TV+. With the return of the show will also come the return of Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso. It will also see the team behind the history-making, multi-Emmy Award-winning comedy series coming together once again.
“As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to ‘look before we leap,’” said star and executive producer Sudeikis, “in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.”

What exactly that means remains to be seen. Sudeikis has revealed on the podcast New Heights (Jason and Travis Kelce’s podcast) that Ted will be coaching a women’s team in the upcoming season. This could be bringing Ted back to Richmond as Keely Jones (Juno Temple) suggested to team owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) that the club should start a women’s team. It has already been reported that Warner Bros. TV has already picked up options for Waddingham, Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent), and Jeremy Swift (Leslie Higgins). However, Apple TV+ has not confirmed any casting behind Sudeikis returning as Ted. It is also being reported by The Hollywood Reporter that Temple is in negotiations to return to the show as is Brendan Hunt (Coach Beard and also a co-creator and executive producer).

According to Sudeikis on New Heights, work has already begun on writing the new seasons. It is also being reported that production could begin as early as this summer. “It’s daunting, because we told the story we wanted to tell, but there’s more there,” Sudeikis said. “It’s a neat group of people to work with and a wonderful group of characters to write for.”

“Ted Lasso has been nothing short of a juggernaut, inspiring a passionate fanbase all over the world, and delivering endless joy and laughter, all while spreading kindness, compassion and unwavering belief,” said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+. “Everyone at Apple is thrilled to be continuing our collaboration with Jason and the brilliant creative minds behind this show.”

There are some new members of the production team joining Ted Lasso for season four. Emmy Award winner Jack Burditt (Nobody Wants This, Modern Family, 30 Rock) will be joining as executive producer under a new overall deal with Apple TV+. Sudeikis stars and executive produces alongside Brendan Hunt, Joe Kelly, Jane Becker, Jamie Lee, and Bill Wrubel. Brett Goldstein serves as writer and executive producer alongside Leanne Bowen. Sarah Walker and Phoebe Walsh will serve as writers and producers for season four, and Sasha Garron co-produce. Julia Lindon will write for season four, and Dylan Marron will serve as story editor. Bill Lawrence executive produces via his Doozer Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, a division of NBCUniversal Content. Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer also serve as executive producers. The series was developed by Sudeikis, Lawrence, Kelly, and Hunt, and is based on the preexisting format and characters from NBC Sports.

Ted Lasso was a smash hit for Apple TV+. After being released, it quickly became a global phenomenon and began breaking records. Season one became the most Emmy-nominated comedy series in its first season, and landed rare back-to-back Outstanding Comedy Series Emmys for its first two seasons on air.
