Lanny Smoot Window in Disney California Adventure

Window Display Arrives in Disney California Adventure Honoring Imagineer Lanny Smoot for Black History Month

A new window display has appeared in Disney California Adventure along Hollywood Boulevard that honors Imagineer and inventor Lanny Smoot. Smoot, who was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame last year, has created many inventions that bring experiences to life in the Disney parks. This includes the HoloTile that was demonstrated to media members at a special event last year and then again at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event. The window arrived for Black History Month.

Lanny Smoot is only the second Disney employee to be inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Walt Disney was the first. At the time of his induction, Smoot shared his gratitude and said, “I get to create the things that I would love to see myself and it is always in service, again, of making people happy and enjoy themselves.”

“As a life-long inventor, I am excited, delighted, and humbled to be inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame,” Lanny shared with the Disney Parks Blog. “To be included alongside my childhood hero, Thomas Edison, and my lifelong role model, Jim West — the inventor of the electret microphone, is both exciting and humbling. And as someone who’s had the privilege of working at The Walt Disney Company, it’s especially meaningful to know that Walt Disney himself is also an inductee.”

Daps Magic team member Steven and his brother stopped by Disney California Adventure to check out the new display and take pictures of it. The display looks like what Lanny Smoot’s workshop looks like. Check out the photos of this display here:
