On this day in 1978, a plaque was installed at the Broadway Theater in New York City to commemorate the birthplace of Mickey and Minnie Mouse 50 years earlier. Located at 53rd and Broadway, the site was home to the former Colony Theater where ‘Steamboat Willie’ premiered in 1928. Mickey himself attended the ceremony, along with animator and Disney Legend Ward Kimball, one of Walt’s Nine Old Men. The Colony Theater also debuted ‘Fantasia’ in 1940.
