Last week it was revealed that Disney is working on a new movie based on Prince Charming. Paul King is set to direct the film. He is also co-writing the flick with Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker. Now it appears that Disney has its sights set on Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Chris Hemsworth for the title role. Deadline has confirmed that Hemsworth is in talks for the role.
At this point, the film is in development. A production and release timeline is unknown. It also isn’t known what the story will specifically be about beyond the prince that Cinderella falls in love with in Cinderella. Disney has released several versions of this story through the years including both animated and live-action versions. One thing known about this film is that it won’t be linked directly to Cinderella.
Throughout literature, there are quite a few different origins for Prince Charming. This provides some options for storytelling for King and Disney to explore. In some films, he has been connected with other princesses. However, traditionally Princess Charming and Cinderella are the two who fall in love.
Chris Hemsworth is most known to Disney fans as Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This was a role he first appeared in Thor in 2011. He has gone on to reprise the role in multiple films in the MCU since. The most recent movie with a major role for the character was 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Hemsworth has also appeared in 2009’s Star Trek, The Cabin in the Woods, and recently Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.
Director Paul King has had success with family-friendly movies in the past. He is behind the Paddington movies. He also directed Wonka. His co-writer Simon Farnaby also worked with him on the Paddington movies and also Wonka.
What do you think about Chris Hemsworth potentially starring as Prince Charming in this movie?
