This year the Disneyland Resort has been given the gift of Deadpool visiting the Avengers Campus. When initially this was revealed to be happening, there was plenty of excitement from some fans and concern from others. However, as time has gone by this has turned out to be a wonderful addition to the Disneyland Resort. Throughout the day, Deadpool tells stories, rides a unicorn, finishes off a fight with the Avengers (sort of), and dances with Star Lord.
The Dance Off with Star Lord and Deadpool brings some of the best of Marvel to Disney California Adventure. It’s two of the funniest heroes from the Marvel Cinematic Universe who also are pretty decent at action as well. What this results in is a very funny, energetic, and impressive performance in front of Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! The highlight is a lift of Deadpool by Star Lord that is a perfect nod to the 80s romance film that inspires it.
Comic book characters are often at their best when they don’t take themselves too seriously. This dance off is a wonderful demonstration of that. Yes, there is a storyline that has some consequence for the characters. But really, it is a moment in time that is entertaining and doesn’t have galactic consequences (at least as far as we know). Sometimes stories can become too consequential and they become exhausting. This is not the case with Deadpool and Star Lord. They both bring a good time to the party and move whatever story they are in along. They also keep things from getting too heavy or serious. This is why the addition of this moment to Disney California Adventure’s Avengers Campus is such a wonderful thing.
