Agatha All Along: Episode 4 Recap and Review

Better late than never, we are back to review and recap the most recent episode of Disney+ and Marvel’s latest show, Agatha All Along. Some theories have changed and even more questions have come up! Let’s get started! By the way, there will be spoilers below so if you’re not caught up it is best to come back later!

In the 4th episode of Agatha All Along, If I Can’t Reach You/ Let My Song Teach You, “the coven faces their second trial on The Witches’ Road.”

As with episode 3, this week’s trial focused on a specific witch. This time it was Alice. However, before we get to the trial, there is a new member of the coven. After the loss of Mrs. Hart, the coven realizes they need a green witch for the trials and uses a spell to summon one. Much to Agatha’s dismay, Rio Vidal is summoned and the tension between them is palpable. I still think that maybe she is Mother Nature/Gaea or a gender-bent version of the Emerald Warlock because when someone mentions that she is a green witch, she corrects them and says she is “THE” green witch.

After they decide to move along, they come up to another house. Alice doesn’t want to go but when she turns around to leave she finds herself in front of the same house. The door has a waxing moon which “Teen” says is a fire phase. Once inside, everyone is transformed into a 60s-type aesthetic. While they explore Lilia sees murals of witches being tortured, Jennifer sees masks, and Alice sees a show poster of her mother.

“Teen” finds and plays a record that turns out to be a curse. One by one, each witch starts burning, and Alice draws a circle around them to stop them from burning. After she has stopped the fire, they each have a scar that matches hers. They realize that Alice’s curse is a generational curse and her mother’s version of the Ballad was actually a protection spell. It’s here we get another version of the Ballad that kind of feels like a Stevie Nicks song (if American Horror Story: Coven is to be believed, she is a white witch after all). The name of the episode and the overall story are reminiscent once again of the lyrics of the song.

Once Alice breaks the curse and they get out of the house, they notice “Teen” has been injured. Jennifer uses her magic to heal him. Meanwhile, Rio is acting suspiciously (as she has the whole episode) while Agatha seems to be showing some concern for “Teen”. He asks her if she cast the sigil but due to the rules of sigils, she wouldn’t be able to say even if she did.

During a discussion with the coven where they are all discussing scars (this moment felt a lot like the scene in Jaws), Rio implies that Agatha is her scar. Obviously, there is a lot more history there for viewers to learn in the upcoming episodes. The episode ends, however, with Rio telling Agatha, “That boy isn’t yours” implying that perhaps Agatha’s kindness to “Teen” is because she thinks he is her son Nicholas Scratch. If Rio is telling the truth, then it definitely feeds the theory that he is Wiccan, but we’ll see!

I really enjoyed this episode and despite it being less spooky, it was nice to see the coven starting to become a coven versus being one only in name. I was also relieved that we didn’t lose another coven member though I do still fear for Lilia given her short time in the comics. I am also looking forward to seeing the Salem Seven again and finding out more about Rio and Agatha’s past!
