The Disneyland Resort and cast members represented by the Master Services Council reached a tentative agreement for a three-year contract. The tentative agreements comes just days after cast members covered by the Disneyland Park Master Services Council contract voted on Friday to authorize a strike. The two sides came together to negotiate on Monday and Tuesday this week.
The Disneyland Resort said of the development,
On July 24, the Disneyland Resort and the Master Services Council reached a tentative agreement on a new three-year contract. Cast Members in Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park will have the opportunity to vote on the agreement on Monday, July 29.
We care deeply about the wellbeing of our cast members and are pleased to have reached a tentative agreement with Master Services Council that addresses what matters most to our cast while positioning Disneyland Resort for future growth and job creation.
The Disney Workers Rising Bargaining Committee released a statement on social media saying:
We have reached a tentative agreement with Disney. We have fought hard for the past four months and this tentative agreement would not have been possible without the strength we showed this past week with our rally and Unfair Labor Practice vote.
We achieved our goals – a three-year contract that contains significant wage increases for all cast members, seniority increases and additional premiums as well as the retention of premiums. We also addressed issues that will make the attendance policy work better for cast members.
With personal actions like wearing our union button and signing a petition to massive 1,000-person rallies and worldwide news coverage, we have shown Disney that we are the true magic makers of the park. We stood up to the company’s unfair labor practices and showed them that we were willing to do whatever it took to get the contract we deserved.
Our solidarity and victory today sends a message to workers everywhere – when we fight, we win.
The next step will be for the approximately 9,000 cast members to vote on this contract. The vote is scheduled to take place on Monday, July 29, 2024.
If this contract is approved, it will end a negotiating process that began in April. The previous contract expired on June 16, 2024. With no contract extension in place, the unions obligation to maintain labor peace ended. This is why the unions were able to allow for its members to vote to authorize a strike and potentially even call a strike. Union members voted 99% in favor of authorizing the strike.
This tentative agreement comes just a week after the unions voted to authorize a strike. Earlier in the week, a protest was held by union members and supporters on Disneyland’s 69th birthday. Hundreds marched on Disney Way and Harbor Boulevard to share their message. This was followed up by the vote on Friday. At this point, a strike is not a guarantee but just one more tool that could potentially used in the negotiations next week.
