Disneyland Paris set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ with its Bastille Day celebration on July 14th in the skies above the Disney park. The title was given for “the Largest aerial display of a fictional character formed by multirotors/drones.” This was done with 1,571 drones that lit up the night sky and created an incredible giant tricolor Mickey Mouse head over Sleeping Beauty Castle. This display both captivated guests and marked a monumental achievement for the resort.
The moment was a showcase of storytelling and innovation was made possible through the effort of Disney Paris Entertainment teams, in collaboration with its official technology provider Dronisos. Dronisos is Europe’s leading drone show technology provider. This display was the culmination of months of work and set a new benchmark, exemplifying Disneyland Paris’ dedication to continue to impress its guests. In total, the team used over 1,630 drones, including pyro-drones, to illuminate the sky throughout the full performance. There were some sequences that utilized fewer drones. The 12-minute nighttime show utilized pyrothenics, lights, and drone choreography. The full show took guests through five creative scenes representing classic Disney stories inspired by France. This show also included some of the greatest symbols of French culture like the Eiffel Tower, the emblematic rose window of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and also iconic scenes from Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios films including Beauty and the Beast, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Sleeping Beauty, The Aristocats, and Ratatouille.
“We are thrilled and proud to have set this GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title,” said Ben Spalding, Entertainment Producer at Disneyland Paris.
“It’s a testament to the creativity, innovation, and hard work of our entire team. This achievement underscores our commitment to delivering unforgettable experiences to our guests” explained Matthieu Robin, Entertainment Creative Lead at Disneyland Paris.
The Bastille Day fireworks and drone show was only a one-night event. However, Disneyland Paris continues to bring the skies alive with the Disney Electrical Sky Parade. This show was introduced in January 2024 and includes over 500 drones, synchronized with lasers, video projections, lights, and fountains. These are all set against the iconic backdrop of Sleeping Beauty Castle. During the show, the sky comes to life with illuminated floats that symbolize the beloved icons of the Main Street Electrical Parade. This includes Mickey Mouse and his friends’ train, Elliott the lovable dragon from Pete’s Dragon, and Cinderella’s enchanting carriage, all coming to life in the night sky. It also is set to the iconic electro-synthetic music. In this case, it has been specially remixed for this extraordinary night to reinforce the atmosphere of the magical nighttime celebration.
Throughout the summer and fall, Disneyland Paris will be presenting the Disney Electrical Sky Parade. It will have dazzling nightly performances and is a must-see for guests visiting Disneyland Paris.
