Star Trek III: The Search For Spock

‘Star Trek III: The Search for Spock’ Heading to Theaters for 40th Anniversary… In the UK

In Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn, Spock said “remember” as he mind melded with McCoy. While many people remember this moment and movie, quite often the movie that followed is forgotten. This all can change, however. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock is returning to theaters in celebration of its 40th anniversary. On top of that, the release will be in 4K! There is one thing to note, however. It appears that it is only returning to theaters if you live in the UK. The news was posted via the Paramount Pictures Ireland account on X (formerly known as Twitter). The post was accompanied with a new poster for the film. It can be seen here:

Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, directed by Leonard Nimoy, continues from where Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan left off. The crew of the Enterprise mourning Spock’s death as they head back home. Learning that Spock’s spirit resides in Dr. McCoy, Captain Kirk and his crew defy Starfleet to retrieve Spock’s body from the Genesis Planet. They confront Klingon commander Kruge, who seeks the Genesis device’s secrets. Overcoming numerous challenges, they retrieve Spock’s body and, through a risky procedure on Vulcan, reunite his spirit and body, successfully resurrecting him and rekindling their friendship.

The film stars William Shatner as Captain James T. Kirk, Leonard Nimoy as Spock, DeForest Kelly as Dr. McCoy, James Doohan as Scotty, Walter Koenig as Chekov, George Takei as Sulu, and Nichelle Nichols as Uhura. Leonard Nimoy also directed the film. It was originally released in theaters on June 1, 1984. It brought in $76 million domestically, including an opening weekend of $16 million. Adjusted for inflation, that would be approximately $216 million for its domestic total and $45 million for the opening weekend in 2024.

At this time, the only announcement for The Search For Spock returning to theaters is over in the U.K. There have been no announcements about it returning to the big screen in the United States. Even its arrival in the U.K. marks the first time in 40 years it has been released in theaters again. When it was originally released, it received mixed reviews from fans. For now, it is just known that it will be released on June 14th across the Atlantic. Daps Magic will continue to provide updates if it does indeed get announced for a release in the United States. Currently, for those in the U.S.A., it can be seen on the MAX streaming service.
