A new window that honors Disney Legend Floyd Norman has appeared at Disney California Adventure as Black History Month begins. The window is found in Hollywood Land and is a celebration of this amazing artist’s diverse career. Floyd came to Disney in the 1950’s and started out as an in-betweener and animator on Sleeping Beauty, The Sword in the Stone, and The Jungle Book. He worked on a variety of other animated short projects at Disney in the late 1950s and early ‘60s. After the passing of Walt Disney, he moved on to co-found his own AfroKids animation studio with animator and director Leo Sullivan. The two worked on several projects together, including the Hey! Hey! Hey! It’s Fat Albert television special, which aired in 1969 on NBC.
In the early 1970’s, Floyd returned to Disney to work on Robin Hood. He would also be a layout artist on Wheelie and the Chopper Bunch, an animator on Jabberjaw, character designer and key layout artist on The New Fred and Barney Show, and key layout artist on The Kwicky Koala Show. Fast forward a few years and Floyd found himself at Pixar Animation Studios where he worked on Toy Story 2 and Monsters Inc. along with working on The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Mulan for Disney, along with some other projects. He also has written several books throughout this career.
