On this day in 1980, Sherry Lansing became the first woman to head a major studio when she was hired as president of production at 20th Century Fox. Lansing was responsible for the development and production of all feature films worldwide for the studio. She started her career as a high school math and English teacher and came into the film industry as a script reader and story editor.
