Natalie Portman & Mark Hamill

Luke Skywalker Meets Mother at Golden Globes

On Sunday, Luke Skywalker met Padmé Amidala for the first time at the Golden Globes. While the character didn’t actually meet, Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman met for the first time while attending the awards show. Mark Hamill and Natalie Portman were both presenters at this year’s Golden Globes. Portman was also nominated for Best Actress in the Musical/Comedy for her role as as actress Elizabeth Berry in the Best Picture-nominated film May December.

The meeting between Hamill and his screen mother took place after the awards show. Hamill tweeted about it after saying, “Now I have finally met my “mother”, thanks to the @goldenglobes.”

The meeting was a long time coming. The two Star Wars actors never appeared on screen together. It wasn’t realized until 2018 that they hadn’t met either. When the official Star Wars X/Twitter account posted birthday wishes to Portman, Hamill quote tweeted it saying, “FUN FACT: I’ve never met this woman.”

Later in the month Portman responded to Hamill while on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. “It’s such a shame, I would love to meet him,” Portman said. “Mark, I would love to meet you, come over,” she said while looking directly into the camera.

Hamill responded shortly after on X/Twitter saying, “SHAMEFUL FACT: “Center of the #StarWars Universe” Stephen Colbert @StephenAtHome revealed I neglected to wish Natalie a #HBD– Please forgive me Ms Portman. from your thoughtless, ungrateful son, mh #AGoodFirstStep

Hamill met his on-screen father, Hayden Christensen in 2017 at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando. It is unlikely that he will meet either of them in character, however. Hamill has made it quite clear that is done with Luke Skywalker.
