There is so much to be thankful for this year. As I think back over the last year, a few things definitely stand out. One of these highlights of the year definitely had to be when I got an email asking if I wanted to interview the cast of The Muppets Mayhem. A few emails later, I discovered that this would be an interview with The Electric Mayhem. That’s right, I would get to interview Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot, and Lips!
As a huge fan of The Muppets, I was ecstatic. On the day of the interview, I hopped online and into a virtual green room for the wait until it was my turn. As I looked at the others in the room I couldn’t help but marvel at how I was somehow included as one of the media outlets getting to interview people from The Muppets Mayhem. There were other outlets that I look up to and think they set the standard for online journalism. I was also impressed with how kind everyone was. I also was drinking copious amounts of coffee as I found myself totally amped up about what was going to happen. Finally, it was my turn to enter the virtual studio and interview the band.
Interviewing The Electric Mayhem might have been one of the most fun interviews I’ve ever done. The band was exactly what I imagined they would be like. They were awesome, hilarious, and zany! During the interview, we had a tech issue (which I don’t think you can tell in the finished project), which just added to the awesomeness of the experience. I will admit, I do like when things go off script sometimes. While things were getting figured out, it was a nice way to relax with everyone for a minute or two. After the interview, Floyd pointed out that my bow tie had The Muppets on it. He specifically noted to Animal that he was on my tie. Immediately this led to a discussion about the tie and who was and wasn’t on it by the band. It was hilarious and I wish I had gotten the video of that portion of the experience. Nevertheless, it now is one of my favorite memories that have been made since starting Daps Magic in 2004.
Interviewing The Electric Mayhem was everything I could have ever hoped for! As an added bonus, I had been able to review The Muppets Mayhem ahead of the interview in preparation. I loved the show. I really hope that more series get released with The Muppets that are like this. I have rewatched it since, several times, along with getting their vinyl record and also listening to album on streaming services. However, nothing beats getting to meet and chat with Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot, and Lips! It was an incredible day and created a core memory I will always be thankful for! Oh, and you can watch it and see how much fun I was having below.
