Jake the Droid

Sunday Spotlight: Jake the Droid

Jake the Droid (officially J4-K3) was a friendly and inquisitive droid that was occasionally be found in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. He was (or perhaps still is) a prototype droid. Basically this means he was still under development. When he appeared at Disneyland, he was always learning and growing, and loved to interact with guests. Jake was a wonderful addition to the world of Star Wars droids. He was sure to make a trip to Disneyland even more memorable for those who met him. The Daps Magic team was lucky enough to stumble upon him a couple of times.

Jake was first seen in Star Wars Launch Bay in 2016 for some play tests. He was seen the following year at Disney’s 2017 D23 Expo Later in the year, he made appearances in Tomorrowland. He was being tested for inclusion in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the Star Wars-themed land that opened at Disneyland in 2019. He was autonomous and really was something to see! He sadly never ended up in Disneyland’s newest land. However, R2-D2 can often be found on Batuu.

Jake is an astromech droid, which means he was a small, wheeled droid that is often used for repairs and maintenance. He was painted orange and white, and he had a friendly and approachable personality. Jake was always happy to interact guests and was always up for a conversation and a quick photo.

Those who were lucky enough to see Jake and interact with him could attest to the magic of this little droid that was about 3 feet tall. For everyone else, his memory will have to live on through videos and photos on the internet. Maybe someday Jake will make a return!
