The Disneyland Resort played host on Saturday night to Disney’s newest film, Haunted Mansion. The world premiere was screened at the Hyperion Theater in Disney California Adventure. Before the actual world premier was seen by members of the media, special guests, and D23 members, a special red carpet was set up outside of the Haunted Mansion attraction and a reception was held outside of the Hyperion Theater. Also hand were various ghost hosts from different iterations of the Haunted Mansion attractions around the world.
At Disneyland, the Haunted Mansion closed at 3:00 PM to allow for last minute preparations to be done ahead of the 5:00 PM red carpet portion of the event. When this started, various Disney characters could be seen meeting with guests and taking photos in the red carpet area and also on the lawn in front of the Haunted Mansion. This included Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse, Evil Queen and Maleficent, Cruella, Sally Slater, and Constance Hatchaway.
Disney also brought in ghost hosts from around the world who work in the different iterations of the Haunted Mansion. This happy group of people were ecstatic to be at the event together and also at the original Haunted Mansion. They could be seen taking pictures with each other, with the Disneyland Ambassadors, and also with Josh D’Amaro, chairman of Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.
The Haunted Mansion was also open for those attending the world premiere of the film. The Daps Magic team did film it earlier in the day ahead of the start of the event. This gave the opportunity to simply ride the attraction and enjoy it before watching the film.
After taking shuttle buses from New Orleans Square to the Hyperion Theater, guests were able to enjoy a reception before the world premiere screening. Along with food and drink, there were also props, costumes, photo ops, and entertainment to enjoy.
The night culminated with the screening of Haunted Mansion. The world premiere kicked off with words by director Justin Simien before the movie was shown. He gave high accolades to his mother and his husband, at one point even choking up. He briefly mentioned the fact that the actors were not on hand due to the current strike. He also gave thanks to those in leadership at Disney that helped really make this film happen at all levels. Referencing the fact that he once worked at Disneyland and expressed his love for the Haunted Mansion. It was clear that this movie was a labor of love for Simien. His comments over, Haunted Mansion was shown to those in attendance.
A review of the film will be available closer to the release date of Haunted Mansion. Following the screening, those in attendance were invited to enjoy the rest of the evening at the Disneyland Resort or make their way home.
The Haunted Mansion World Premiere was a very warm event at the Disneyland Resort both in terms of temperature and the friendliness/kindness of the cast members who made the magic throughout the evening. The atmosphere was celebratory and as the movie concluded, different people that were down in front (presumably connected with the studios) could be heard cheering on different people during the credits.
