Evan Peters has joined the cast of Tron: Ares. The actor who has been seen as Quicksilver in the X-Men films, then WandaVision, and also played the title role in Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story will be starring in Tron 3 alongside Jared Leto.
The film is set to begin filming in August and is being directed by Joachim Rønning. Tron 3 will continue the franchise that was started in 1982’s Tron. In it, Jeff Bridges was a video game designer named Kevin Flynn who was transported into the game he designed. There, he teams up with a security program named Tron who was played by Bruce Boxleitner. While not considered a success at the time, as the years went by it became a cult classic. In 2010 this led to the release of Tron: Legacy. This movie was directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and starred Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde. Jeff Bridges returned for this film as well. This movie also wasn’t necessarily a critical success but has been popular with fans nonetheless.
Over the last decade or so there have been multiple attempts at making a third movie for the franchise. However, things were just not getting off the ground until a new direction was taken. This led to the development of Tron: Ares. This movie has had Jared Leto attached to it for several years now. The premise for this movie is slightly different than the previous ones. Where they went into the Grid, it appears that this will have a new sentient program leaving the grid to head to the real world. This sentient program, named Ares, is to be played by Jared Leto.
It isn’t known what Evan Peters role will be in Tron: Ares. The script does call for a soldier in the digital world and also an awkward gamer in the human world. It is possible that he will play one of these roles.
Tron: Ares has a script that was written by written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. Emma Ludbrook, Jeffrey Springer, and Jared Leto are producing. Russell Allen is executive producing.
