Mickey Saves Christmas Official Description

Mickey, Minnie and their pals attempt to celebrate the perfect Christmas at their snowy cabin; when Pluto causes Santa to lose all the presents on his sleigh, the friends travel to the North Pole on a quest to save Christmas.

This holiday special has a fantastic vocal cast. This includes:

  • Bret Iwan – Mickey Mouse
  • Kaitlyn Robrock – Minnie Mouse
  • Bill Farmer – Goofy/Pluto
  • Tony Anselmo – Donald Duck
  • Tess Macneille – Daisy Duck
  • Brock Powell – Santa Claus
  • Camryn Grimes – Mrs. Claus

While this isn’t the only time Mickey Mouse has appeared in a stop-motion project, it definitely is the longest. The special required great detail to be worked on to bring it to life. This includes a puppet Mickey that is approximately six inches tall and a Goofy puppet that is nine or ten inches tall. Then there are all the sets surrounding Mickey and friends as well.

There is also original music for the program. This includes songs by composer Ben Zeadman and lyricist Laura Schein. “They really brought so much to this project,” Director David H. Brooks shared with D23. “These are sing-along songs. You should have seen me singing along on the set, and singing through the halls of the studio, just repeating these songs over and over.”

“We can’t wait for audiences to see Mickey and his beloved friends celebrating the holidays together in this heartfelt and warm new special,” says Alyssa Sapire, senior vice president, Development, Series and Strategy, Disney Junior. “We hope it will become a yearly must-watch tradition for kids and families. Stoopid Buddy Stoodios has once again rung in the cheer with their beautiful stop-motion animation, and we’re delighted that so many different audiences will be able to watch Mickey Saves Christmas across a variety of platforms this holiday season.”

This is a program that will be fun for the whole family. “We wanted to make sure this is something everybody can enjoy,” Brooks said. “It’s more than just a solo viewing experience. It should be a whole family enjoying it.” There are references to classic holiday shows, including one to The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Throughout the special, there are a lot of magical little moments. Two young raindeer named Jingle and Jolly steel the show. “They’re going to be a thing,” Brooks says with a smile. “We can’t wait for the Jingle and Jolly spinoff!” They definitely ended up with more screentime than initially planned because the crew fell in love with them.
