‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ Opens to $450 Million Worldwide

In its opening weekend, Marvel Studios’ supernatural action-adventure film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness cast a $450 million spell over global audiences, opening at No. 1 in all markets, marking the highest global opening of the year to date. Worldwide, it scored the second highest domestic opening weekend of the pandemic era, generating $187 million domestically and $262.4 million internationally.

Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) titles now account for five of the top seven pandemic-era domestic opening weekends, with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness landing at No. 2 behind Spider-Man: No Way Home—a film that also starred Benedict Cumberbatch in the role of Doctor Stephen Strange. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had the 11th highest domestic opening in history, between Disney and Pixar’s Incredibles 2 ($182.7 million) and Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Age of Ultron ($191.3 million), and represents the seventh highest MCU opening weekend of all time.

Internationally, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had a top 10 all-time industry opening weekend in several countries, including Brazil, Korea, and Mexico, and had the highest opening weekend during the pandemic era in Chile, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore (including previews), Romania, and Trinidad.
