A new trailer has been launched for Pixar’s upcoming Lightyear film. With it comes new images, a poster, and more of the cast has been revealed. The movie, set to be released on June 17, 2022, tells the origin story of Buzz Lightyear before he was made into a toy. This movie follows the legendary Space Ranger on an intergalactic adventure!
“Buzz’s world was always something I was excited about,” said director Angus MacLane. “In ‘Toy Story,’ there seemed to be this incredible backstory to him being a Space Ranger that’s only touched upon, and I always wanted to explore that world further. So my ‘Lighytear’ pitch was, ‘What was the movie that Andy saw that made him want a Buzz Lightyear toy?’ I wanted to see that movie. And now I’m lucky enough to get to make it.”
More of the cast was announced for Lightyear as well. They join Chris Evans who is voicing Buzz Lightyear himself. The new voices that were announced include Keke Palmer, Dale Soules, and Taika Waititi as a group of ambitious recruits. Peter Sohn voices Buzz’s robot companion, Sox. Uzo Aduba, James Brolin, Mary McDonald-Lewis, Efren Ramirez and Isiah Whitlock Jr. all lend their voices to the cast as well.
“The cast for ‘Lightyear’ is truly a dream team,” said MacLane. “Each of the performers immediately inhabited their character, which gave us the opportunity to play a bit during recording sessions. This resulted in a level of specificity that elevated the material and brought additional depth to the characters’ relationships. It has been a privilege to work with such a talented and generous cast.”
The score for Lightyear is being written by award-winning composer Michael Giacchino. Giacchino has worked with Pixar frequently through the years. His work on the score for Up garnered him an Oscar, Golden Globe, and GRAMMY. He also composed the music for The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Cars 2, Inside Out, Coco, Incredibles 2, and more. The soundtrack for Lightyear will be available the same day as the movie.
Lightyear is being produced by Galyn Susman (Toy Story That Time Forgot). It will be released on June 17, 2022. What do you think of the trailer, poster, images, and new cast announcements? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
