John Williams Composing Obi-Wan Kenobi Theme

John Williams isn’t done writing Star Wars music just yet. Variety is reporting that the legendary composer is returning to the Star Wars universe again to write the theme for Obi-Wan Kenobi. The return by Williams to the galaxy far, far away comes two years after it was thought that he had finished his run with the franchise with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

According to Variety, not only has Williams written the piece for the Ewan McGregor character but it was also recorded last week with a Los Angeles orchestra. This was surrounded by tight security. Obi-Wan Kenobi is coming exclusively to Disney+ on May 25, 2022.

John Williams’ connection with Star Wars goes back to the original film in 1977. Over the course of more than four decades, he has scored the music for many fan-favorite characters and moments. The revered composer turned 90 on February 8th and shows no signs of slowing down. He is currently working on the score for The Fabermans for Steven Spielberg. He is also working on the music for the fifth Indiana Jones flick, which will be in theaters next year. In March Williams will conduct the Vienna Philharmonic. This will be followed by Williams conducting the Philadelphia Orchestra and Pittsburgh Symphony in April. In September he will return to the Hollywood Bowl to conduct the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Originally, Williams composed a score for Obi-Wan Kenobi as portrayed by Alec Guinness. This theme went on to become the Force theme. It would also be utilized in the Throne Rome scene. It is unknown if the theme that was recorded last week included this theme, one of the themes connected with Ewan McGregor in the Star Wars prequel films, or something completely original.

At this time, it isn’t known who will be scoring the Disney+ series. What do you think of John Williams writing a theme for Obi-Wan Kenobi? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comments below!
