Paramount Sets Release Date for Next Star Trek Movie in 2023

There is a new Star Trek movie in the works. What that movie is, remains to be seen. However, Paramount Pictures has announced that the next Star Trek movie will be arriving in theaters on June 9, 2023. At this time, the only thing known about it is that it will be produced by J.J. Abrams.

This new movie could be based on a script that was ordered from Star Trek: Discovery writer Kalinda Vazquez by Paramount Pictures. If it is this one, it was set to be produced by J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot productions. If it is this movie, there are no known details about it other than it is “an original movie that [Vazquez] hatched.”

This script is the fourth in what is becoming a long line of potential Star Trek movies. What potentially makes this one different, however, is that it has a release date. That is assuming it is the Vazquez script. It could be that Paramount is moving forward with one of the other concepts that have been pitched in the last five years.

While there isn’t a lot known about this movie beyond the release date, it is not surprising that Paramount would want to build on the momentum Star Trek currently has on Paramount+. This includes Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Lower Decks, and Star Trek: Picard that have already been released. Moving forward, Star Trek: Prodigy and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are also in the works for the streaming service. With so many different franchises seeing success currently, it would not be a surprise if this is the first of several Star Trek movies to appear in the not so distance future.
