Since the Magic Kingdom reopened last month guests have noticed that the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover didn’t reopen as well. Initially, the attraction just was just not working. However as time went by and the PeopleMover didn’t reopen, it appeared that there wasn’t going to be a quick return for the attraction. Now, Disney has confirmed that the attraction will be down even longer.
According to the Walt Disney World Resort website, the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover is now listed as being under an extended refurbishment through October 31st currently. It drops from the refurbishment list on November 1 but hours are only listed through October 31st so there is a chance the PeopleMover won’t be returning on November 1st. However, it is good to note that the refurbishment list is currently scheduled out into January.
The Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover originally opened at the Magic Kingdom on July 1, 1975, as the Wedway PeopleMover. It operated under that name until 1994 when it was changed to the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. In 2009 the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover was added to the narration. The following year, the name was again changed to Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover. Originally the PeopleMover was envisioned as a mass-transit system for the future.
