Today a new virtual reality experience was announced that fans of Star Wars, and most specifically Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, will love. Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge will give fans an immersive new way to experience the planet Batuu, as seen at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. This new “action-adventure virtual reality experience” comes out of a collaboration between ILMxLAB and Oculus Studios. It will be available later this year.
“We are so excited for fans to step into Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge later this year,” said Vicki Dobbs Beck, ILMxLAB executive-in-charge. “This action-packed adventure not only speaks to the promise of connected and complementary experiences by extending the lore around Black Spire Outpost, it represents another meaningful step in ILMxLAB’s quest to transition from storytelling — one-way communication — to storyLIVING, where you’re inside a world making consequential choices that drive your experience forward.”
Just as Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge does, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge takes place between the events of Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It also is set on the planet Batuu on the outskirts of Black Spire Outpost. It will allow players to “live their own adventure” in a completely new way as they explore this corner of the galaxy far, far away. This time, the exploring will be done in virtual reality.
Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge will have an original story that includes both new and recognizable characters from the Star Wars galaxy. There will also be different styles of gameplay and different difficulty settings. This will help accommodate a wide variety of players and skill levels.
“The rich storytelling in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge has redefined what a Disney park experience can be, and we are thrilled fans will have an opportunity to discover new stories, meet new characters and explore new regions of the planet Batuu in Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge,” said Scott Trowbridge, Walt Disney Imagineering creative executive. “Now our guests can immerse themselves in these stories both inside and outside our parks.”
