Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Marquee Unveiled

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway Marquee Debuts at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on March 4, 2020. Ahead of its grand opening, the new marquee debuted above the entrance on the Chinese Theatre. This new attraction will be the first ride-through attraction in Disney history that will be focused on Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

The details of the marquee really are quite beautiful. It is a mix of blinking lights and also neon lights. Together they animated a Mickey and Minnie created out of lights as they welcome guests to the attraction. The marquee won’t be lit at night until the attraction officially opens in March but Disney has shared some photos of it and the art director shared some thoughts.

“We want to make sure that we’re providing an amazing marquee that really celebrates the entrance into a great attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios,” said Art Director Phillip Hillis.

All in the Details: Making the Mickey & Minnie Runaway Railway Marquee

This connection with the legacy of Hollywood has some connections with Mickey Mouse as well. In 1931, the Mickey Mouse short Mickey Steps Out premiered at the original Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, California. The 1933 Mickey Mouse cartoon Mickey’s Gala Premier opens up with a shot of the front of the Chinese Theatre as well. With a fancy marquee and spotlights being utilized, the theatre welcomed Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Horace Horsecollar, and Clarabelle Cow on to the red carpet in front of it. With the opening of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway, this legacy and connection with the Chinese Theatre will continue on.

Disney also released a fun little video around the marquee for Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway being lit up as well.
