Christopher Robin: Home Entertainment Review

Think about Christopher Robin and generally one thinks of a young boy playing with his friends in the Hundred Acre Wood. What isn’t thought about generally is what happens once Christopher Robin grows up. In the movie of the same name, Christopher Robin (Ewan McGregor) has grown up and is now a family man in London. When he was a kid the adventures in the Hundred Acre Wood usually meant Christopher Robin was rescuing Winnie the Pooh and friends. However, now Christopher Robin is the one needing rescuing. Winnie the Pooh sets off on a quest to reunite this precious group of friends and help Christopher Robin find the joy in life he once had. Christopher Robin is a movie that is full of heart and a pleasant return to the old school Disney family flick.

Christopher Robin

Quality:

Christopher Robin is a stylistically beautiful film. While it does rely on some pretty solid CGI effects for Winnie the Pooh and the gang, it has a classic look. The locations chosen for filming are beautiful as are some of the times of days things were shot. Winnie the Pooh and the gang are CGI and look absolutely incredible. Couple this with a beautiful soundtrack and some fun songs courtesy of Richard Sherman and this viewing experience is exactly what one would expect from a Winnie the Pooh live-action movie.

Extras:

There were a few extras included on the Blu-Ray of Christopher Robin. While the collection wasn’t as comprehensive of a collection as some movie releases, it was still enjoyable. The bonus features include:

BLU-RAY & DIGITAL HD:

  • In Which … A Movie Is Made for Pooh – Filmmakers and cast share their passion for this story in a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the movie.
  • In Which … Pooh Finds His Voice – Discover what it’s like to voice Winnie the Pooh, from voice actors Sterling Holloway to Jim Cummings.
  • In Which … Pooh and Walt Become Friends – How did Walt Disney and Pooh meet? Take a journey through time to explore the legacy of Walt’s first encounter with Pooh.
  • In Which … Pooh and Friends Come to Life – See how Winnie the Pooh and Friends were brought to life as walking and talking stuffed animals in this magical live-action world.

EXCLUSIVE DIGITAL BONUS FEATURE:

  • In Which … We Were Very Young – Meet the actual, original teddy bear who, along with his best friends, has inspired so much love worldwide for almost a century.

These are worth watching. Each feature is very cute and has some interesting things to see. I would like to see more depth but definitely enjoyed what was offered.

Final Thoughts

Christopher Robin was a wonderful return of Winnie the Pooh and the gang. This movie is simply charming. It is enjoyable to watch, has moments of humor, and is very full of heart. The casting is perfect and really, I couldn’t imagine doing it any differently. I will admit that before seeing this film I was a little worried about the use of CGI for Winnie the Pooh and the gang. However, within seconds of seeing Winnie the Pooh in action these fears were all gone. This movie was full of quality and Disney magic. It is a delight to watch and definitely should be in every Disney fan’s movie library! Go out and get it when it arrives on Blu-Ray and Digital Download on November 6th!
