More details are coming out about The Mandalorian, the Star Wars live-action TV show being written and produced by Jon Favreau. After an Instagram post revealed the name and synopsis, more details were released on StarWars.com. This includes a look at who some of the directors will be and an image of what is assumed to be the title character.
Directors
There were several notable directors announced for The Mandalorian that should excite future viewers of this show. They include:
- Dave Filoni (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels)
- Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones)
- Rick Famuyiwa (Dope)
- Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates)
- Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok)
This is an impressive list of directors that have all done some incredible things in the past. The Mandalorian will be executive produced Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Karen Gilchrist will be co-executive producer.
The Mandalorian
The Mandalorian carries on the tradition of warriors the likes of Jango and Boba Fett. It will be taking place during the time between the fall of the Empire and the rise of the First Order. The show will follow the adventures of a Mandalorian who is billed as a “lone gunfighter.” He will be found in the outer reaches of the galaxy as he stays away from the New Republic. StarWars.com released a photo of The Mandalorian. Currently, the actor is unknown.
So what do you think?
A quick glance at the image and the lineup for the team supporting The Mandalorian is enough to get any Star Wars fan excited. I personally am incredibly happy to see Dave Filoni as both a director and executive producer for the show. He has done an absolutely fantastic job in the animated world of Star Wars. There has been lots of talk about him making the leap to live-action, generally in regards to a future movie. However, a TV show seems like a perfect bridge for him to cross. He is an excellent storyteller. He also knows and LOVES Star Wars. I can’t wait to see what he does with The Mandalorian and then where that takes his career at Lucasfilm. The rest of the directors are also quite exciting to see on the roster as well, especially Taika Waititi. I can’t wait to see what he brings to the show as I loved what he did with Thor: Ragnarok. Who knows, maybe even a cameo!?
As for the main character, I’m finding myself very excited to see what is done here as well. People have been fascinated with them since first being introduced to Boba Fett in the original Star Wars series. Their history and culture have been explored in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Both of these shows were led by Dave Filoni so it makes sense why he would be involved in the continued telling of the stories of the people of Mandalore. It would come as no surprise to me if this show not only is about this lone gunfighter but also continues to explore the history and culture of Mandalore. Only time will tell on this though.
The release date for The Mandalorian isn’t known at this time. What is known is that it will be on the upcoming Disney streaming service. This service will be available sometime in 2019.
