Jennifer Morrison, who has played Emma Swan for six seasons on Once Upon A Time, said she will not return to the role as a regular if the show gets renewed. She broke the news via her Instagram feed, and expressed how much she has enjoyed the show. She felt it was time to move on from the show. Here’s her Instagram quote:
As I reached the end of my 6 year contract on ONCE UPON A TIME, I was faced with a significant decision. ABC, Eddy Kitsis, and Adam Horowitz very generously invited me to continue as a series regular. After very careful consideration, I have decided that creatively and personally, it is time for me to move on. Emma Swan is one my favorite characters that I have ever played. My 6 years on ONCE UPON A TIME has changed my life in the most beautiful ways. I am absolutely blown away by the passion and commitment of the Oncer fans. I am so honored to have been a central part of such a special show. I will be forever grateful to Adam, Eddy, and ABC for giving me the gift of playing Emma Swan. As I move on to other creative endeavors, I will continue to attend the fan conventions whenever my professional schedule allows. I always look forward meeting the fans. If ABC Network does in fact order a season 7, I have agreed to appear in one episode, and I will most certainly continue to watch ONCE UPON A TIME. The creativity of the show runners has always inspired me, and I cannot wait to see the ways that they continue to develop and reinvent the show.
So far, OUAT has not been renewed for a seventh season, as the sixth is starting to come to a close. Colin O’Donoghue – Hook, Lana Parrilla – Regina, and Robert Carlyle – Rumplestiltskin are still in contract negotiations. Others have already decided to not return to the show if it gets renewed.
The show creators have in place a reset for the show with the May season finale. It already has two new major characters in that episode that can carry over if the show comes back. Jennifer Morrison, though not returning regularly, has agreed to guest star in one episode for the possible seventh season. Others who are not returning as regulars have agreed to come back as guests as well.
Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, the show’s creators and producers, have said they had a plan in place for the May finale as it is from the beginning of the season. Fans can look forward to things wrapping up well whether or not the show continues on.
What do you think of these upcoming changes, and should the show be renewed?
