Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is beginning to set it’s sails and begin filming soon. As the next movie in the Pirates franchise gets nearer to setting sail, more casting details are coming out… but not a lot. One of the newest tidbits to come out is that Brenton Thwaites is joining the cast. He confirmed to the Mirror saying “I’m heading back to Australia to begin [pre-production] in a month.” He also confirmed that he will be filming opposite of Johnny Depp.
Part of his chat about confirmation also included the little bit he knows about the plot of the movie.
“It’s about a young man who wants to reconnect with his father, Davy Jones. There’s a curse that prevents him from doing that. I think it’s about how he goes around that and tries to fix it and he has to save his dad. I’m looking forward to it. It’ll be a lot of fun!”
The lingering rumor of Orlando Bloom returning to the franchise got a little bit more weight as well. “I think that is going to be happening. I don’t know much about the story, they’re quite tight about that stuff,” Thwaites told the Mirror. This would make sense as the last we saw of Orlando Bloom, he was the new Davy Jones. If this does end up being true he will be joining the growing cast that officially includes Johnny Depp and Kaya Scodelario. Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, and Javier Bardem are rumored to be a part of the cast as well.
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales will be directed by Kon-Tiki filmmakers Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg. It will open in theaters on July 7, 2017.
