For many years guests visiting Disney California Adventure would stop and pose in front of C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A Letters that stood in front of the entrance to Disney California Adventure. Many, who visited regularly, would have a favorite letter to pose with. With the massive renovation of Disney California Adventure, a new entrance was created. This new theme and entrance no longer fit with the C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A Letters.
Rather than just have the C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A Letters disappear, the Disneyland Resort chose to donate the letters to the California State Fair. They were unveiled on July 11, 2013 at their new home in front of the Cal Expo Main Gate at the California State Fair where they will greet people visiting the State Fair.
The dedication ceremony for the C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A Letters had dignitaries including Cal Expo CEO Rick Pickering, Golden 1 Credit Union President and CEO Donna Bland and Disney California Adventure Park Vice President Mary Niven, as well as Visit California President and CEO Caroline Beteta.
Disney California Adventure Park Vice President Mary Niven shared, “The “C-A-L-I-F-O-R-N-I-A” letters were popular with millions of Disneyland Resort guests and Cal Expo is a perfect destination to continue their legacy.”
Each letter stands 11 feet, 8 inches tall and weigh 5,000 to 13,000 pounds each. The Disneyland Resort donated them to Friends of the California State Fair in May 2012. Golden 1 Credit Union sponsored the effort to install the letters that weigh in total 87,328 pounds.
The California State Fair is celebrating its 160th year this year.
