DAPs Magic Disney News – by Mr. DAPs
The Lion King has retained the top spot in the box office race for the second weekend in a row. This week, The Lion King 3D held off Brad Pitt’s Moneyball. According to the Associated Press, The Lion King 3D brought in $22.1 million this weekend. It has now generated more than $61.7 million since being re-released in 3D last weekend.
The original run of The Lion King brought in $800 million between it’s original run and 2002 re-release. David Hollis, Disney’s head of distribution has said that due to the success of this release, it will remain on the big screen longer than the originally planned 2 week run. It hasn’t been decided how much longer it will remain on screen however.
The Lion King will also be released on Disney Blu-Ray in 3D and also Blu-Ray/DVD on October 4, 2011

Way to go Lion King! I hope Disney continues to re-release movies in theaters. It was wonderful to this and Toy Story 1&2 on the big screen again :)
