Soon heading overseas is that of Disney Theatrical Production’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. The beloved story told alongside music from Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, is set to make its debut in Denmark next year.
According to Broadway World, the musical has been booked for a run at Denmark’s own Fredericia Theater. The production is said to open in October of 2016 and later travel to The Royal Theater’s Old Stage in June of 2017.
Based on the Victor Hugo novel, the book and play tells the story of a young man by the name of Quasimodo. So far, Lars Molsted has been cast in the role of Quasimodo. The article noted that in the coming months, auditions are to be held for other roles.
Fredericia Theatre Manager, Soren Moller, gave this comment,”It is with great joy and pride that we engage in a new spectacular Disney-adventure! THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME is a clear personal favorite both in terms of the amazing music and the brilliant book, and Fredericia is the first place outside the States where this version of the musical gets a production. Both at Fredericia Theater and The Royal Theater, the stage will be transformed as to create a more extravagant and intimate experience than ever seen before. All of Denmark can look forward to one more musical in a league of its own.”
During its previous run in the United States, The Hunchback of Notre Dame musical held performances at the La Jolla Playhouse in La Jolla, CA as well as the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn, NJ. The production was then denied transferring over to Broadway, according to an article by Playbill. Audiences were invited to sign a petition in helping the production transfer over but it was no avail.
Tickets for the production will go on sale this November 16. If you are interested in tickets, please click here.
Do you think this production will have more success overseas?
