Welcome to Geeks Corner. I'm Mr. Daps.
0:19
>> I'm Katie.
0:20
>> And did you know that the very first
0:21
episode of Only Murders in the Building
0:24
debuted on this day
0:26
>> in 2021? I bet you all thought I was
0:28
going to have a fact about a wall,
0:30
didn't you?
0:30
>> Whoa. Five whole years.
0:32
>> Five whole years. And going into the
0:34
sixth season.
0:34
>> In buildings, there are walls.
0:36
>> Mhm.
0:37
So,
0:38
>> there's there's the connection. I guess
0:40
that
0:41
>> obviously
0:42
>> we'll take it. There we go. All right.
0:45
What should people do, Katie?
0:46
>> Uh, well, you should go into the chat
0:48
wherever you are, and you should tell us
0:49
how much you love this new time. If you
0:51
are watching this live, this is 7:00
0:54
p.m. California time on a Monday night.
0:57
So, if this is favorable, let us know.
0:59
>> There you go. [laughter]
1:01
>> Uh, also subscribe where you're
1:02
watching. um say this is great where
1:06
you're watching. Um also, you know, open
1:09
a separate tab. Don't go on this go
1:11
don't go on the same tab. Go on a
1:13
separate tab. Go to dabhq.com.
1:16
>> Uh and and go
1:19
there.
1:20
>> Because we have a post show for this
1:21
show.
1:22
>> There you go.
1:23
>> Yes. So, but don't again not in this
1:25
tab. If you do it in this tab,
1:28
>> then you won't be here anymore.
1:29
>> Yeah. And that' be a problem. You can't
1:30
even hear me. They're gone. There you
1:32
go. All right. And also head on over to
1:34
dapsmagic.com where we do have our
1:36
caption of the week photo up. This one
1:39
is from OogieOogie Bash and is Judge
1:41
Doom
1:43
terrorizing a poor tune. And uh we need
1:46
some captions. So head on over to the
1:47
homepage, scroll down, you will see this
1:49
picture. If you click on it, then you
1:51
can leave a caption there and you can
1:53
vote on other captions. And uh the
1:56
winning caption, the one with the most
1:57
votes, will be the caption of the week
2:00
permanently. That's very spooky.
2:02
>> It's a great P. I just love his eyes in
2:04
that picture.
2:05
>> He almost looks snake like
2:07
>> he was looking directly into the camera
2:09
in that like
2:10
>> Yeah,
2:10
>> it almost also reminds me of what is it
2:13
called? A um a deer in the headlights
2:16
kind of thing.
2:17
>> Like there's a little bit of that that
2:19
thing happening.
2:20
>> Probably because there was a portable
2:21
hole and Roger escaped again and
2:24
>> you never know.
2:25
>> You know how tunes go.
2:26
>> He was talking a lot. Uh all right.
2:28
Well, head on over to there to
2:29
dapsmagic.com. Leave a comment. The
2:32
funnier the better because it'll get
2:33
more it'll get more uh votes that way.
2:36
>> And Mikey has a cold [snorts]
2:39
Coke Zero cherry.
2:40
>> That sounds great. All right. Well, this
2:43
week we are going to be talking about
2:45
walls. And that really came from Disney
2:47
World Builders, which is the newest
2:49
Leslie Eyeworks uh documentary that came
2:52
out about a week ago, two weeks ago,
2:54
something like that. And um in this
2:57
documentary there was a line that stuck
2:59
with me for the last I watched it
3:01
probably three or four weeks ago, but
3:03
Kevin Feige basically talks about how he
3:06
loves walls.
3:08
>> And the whole point is that walls always
3:10
signify something better is coming.
3:13
>> True.
3:14
>> And and I'm paraphrasing here. I'm not
3:16
uh quoting him directly because I didn't
3:18
go back and like sit there and write it
3:20
all out. that um but he has this very
3:22
positive association with walls that
3:24
they lead to, you know, future things
3:27
coming to the parks and that's exciting
3:28
as a lifelong fan of of uh Disney theme
3:31
parks. And I thought that was such an
3:33
interesting idea because as regular
3:36
Disney fans, you hear across the gamut
3:40
what people think about walls. Like some
3:42
people are like, "Oh, this park is all
3:45
walls and it's terrible." And then
3:47
there's other people like our friend
3:49
Audrey who's just ridiculously excited
3:50
about every wall that comes up because
3:52
she know that leads to change and new
3:54
things and that's exciting as well. What
3:57
do you think before we get into walls?
3:59
What did what was your your opinion on
4:00
walls, Katie?
4:02
>> So I wore a very specific shirt tonight
4:04
cuz we're talking about walls. Um I grew
4:08
up so to speak in Wall Street DCA. Um,
4:13
which is lovingly
4:14
>> not Main Street DCA,
4:16
>> which is lovingly what we call MA uh DCA
4:19
1 and a half because uh Buenova Street
4:22
behind walls, Cars Land behind walls.
4:25
Um, the Little Mermaid behind walls.
4:27
>> What was your favorite wall?
4:28
>> Uh, I really love The Little Mermaid
4:30
Wall.
4:30
>> Oh, okay.
4:31
>> Where it was like uh coming or part of
4:34
becoming part of your world in summer of
4:37
2011. Mhm. Mhm.
4:38
>> Um I have a picture of me with red hair
4:41
wearing a sweatshirt from my brother's
4:43
college and I'm posing like Ariel with
4:46
that wall. It was my Facebook profile
4:47
picture for a while.
4:49
>> Um
4:52
so much of this like you think anything
4:54
DCA 2.0 behind walls also at some uh for
4:58
a long while the um the bay.
5:01
>> Yeah.
5:01
>> Behind walls.
5:02
>> Oh, that was great though because they
5:03
let you see over the wall for that one.
5:05
>> That was pretty good. which was an
5:06
intentional choice from what I recall.
5:08
>> Uh but I do have a positive association
5:11
because um
5:13
>> sometimes it does feel a little sad if
5:15
something is over and something is done
5:18
but it does mean that there is something
5:21
that is going to happen and typically
5:23
that wall is pretty fun. um the walls
5:27
are themed or um I mean they were
5:30
talking about the construction walls um
5:32
for the Avengers Campus uh bathroom
5:35
expansion uh at uh D23 the Ultimate
5:38
Disney fan event and it was like
5:40
>> multiple times
5:40
>> the amount of uh thought and care even
5:45
if the wall is only going to be up for a
5:46
few days like or a few weeks or whatever
5:49
like I think that that's a very special
5:50
thing and it's it's fun to spot little
5:52
Easter eggs and to have fun little
5:54
conversations and to take pictures
5:56
because it's going to be for a very
5:58
short amount of time in the grand scheme
6:00
of things.
6:01
>> Yes, in the grand scheme of things
6:02
because the walls for the Avengers
6:04
campus in Dar's land was over a year and
6:06
what four months, five months, something
6:08
like that. Um, and definitely do
6:10
remember when
6:12
>> most of Epcot felt like it was at least
6:14
half of the front half of Epcot was
6:16
surrounded by walls. Um, the reason we
6:19
bring this up though is because there
6:20
has been a lot of news surrounding walls
6:23
or walls surrounding news. uh in the
6:26
last six months of the Disneyland
6:29
Resort, even more so than normal, not
6:30
just the normal refurbishments, but
6:32
we're seeing a pivot into what I'm
6:34
calling the Disneyland Forward era. And
6:37
uh this is an exciting time um because
6:40
the last time we had growth like this uh
6:43
led from well actually what it what it
6:46
ended up doing was a parking lot was
6:48
turned into a theme park and this time a
6:52
bunch of old buildings are being turned
6:53
into a parking lot and uh that's
6:56
actually really exciting because what
6:58
it's going to do is make it that much
7:00
easier and more enjoyable to get into
7:02
Disneyland. And uh and and I'm excited
7:05
about that. And so last week we had the
7:07
official groundbreaking for this new
7:10
parking lot which will be over the east
7:12
side of the park across Harbor
7:14
Boulevard.
7:16
And uh so Jill Estino, the president of
7:18
the Disneyland Resort and the mayor of
7:20
Anaheim and a few other people were on
7:22
hand for this this official
7:23
groundbreaking. And um my question for
7:28
you,
7:29
this wasn't brought up at D23. One, do
7:32
you think it should have? And two, how
7:34
excited are you about this, if at all?
7:37
[snorts]
7:39
>> Can you guys take some brutal honesty
7:40
tonight? I think you guys can take some
7:42
brutal honesty tonight. No, I do not
7:44
think this should have been brought up
7:46
at D23, the Ultimate Disney fan event.
7:48
Imagine,
7:50
>> picture in your mind's eye, if you will,
7:52
for just a moment. Yeah, you see it?
7:54
>> Got it.
7:55
>> Imagine the parks and experiences panel.
7:57
Okay, people have walked away from the
7:59
parks and experiences panel and they're
8:01
like, "Really? That's all they had to
8:02
offer. Now imagine if they said, "And
8:05
next week, we are breaking ground on a
8:08
new parking lot." Not the theme of said
8:11
parking lot. No, not not what it's
8:14
going. Not new concept art. Just
8:16
starting next week, we are shovels in
8:18
the ground for a new parking lot.
8:21
Imagine the outrage.
8:23
>> I think they would have been laughed off
8:24
the stage. Yeah,
8:26
>> I think there would have been a
8:27
>> I think there would have been an audible
8:29
laugh at
8:31
>> and it would have been like, "Oh, you
8:32
guys are serious."
8:32
>> And there's only one way you could do
8:34
it.
8:36
>> What? What's your way?
8:37
>> Bring Jack out.
8:39
>> It's true.
8:40
>> And
8:40
>> with a shovel.
8:41
>> With a shovel or like whatever outfit
8:43
you want of the moment. And he could
8:46
have made it a joke intentionally and
8:48
you could have done a nod to it. Not a
8:50
full not a full announcement, but just a
8:52
like, "Haha, this is coming. I better
8:54
get to work, you know, or whatever. Um,
8:56
>> but I I did think it was very humorous
8:58
the amount of people that said, "Wow,
9:00
you know, we just had a parks panel and
9:01
we didn't announce this." And I was
9:03
like, "This is what you want announced
9:05
at a parks panel. It's not what I want
9:07
announced at a parks panel." Certainly.
9:09
And this is something I'm excited about.
9:12
What is the theme going to be? How's the
9:14
walkway going to look? Uh what like what
9:17
is that security experience going to
9:19
look like? These are all exciting things
9:20
because I also think that
9:21
>> the buses, the ride share,
9:23
>> the buses, the ride share. Like
9:24
>> where is it going to enter from Disney
9:26
way? Like is it I'm assuming in a new
9:28
place cuz I would tend to guess they
9:31
won't keep using the Pumba entrance in
9:33
the middle of the block. Like
9:35
>> I would try to make it straight in if I
9:36
was them. But I think that this is
9:40
a new structure signifies a new era of
9:43
the Disneyland Resort because if you're
9:46
going to put more people in their cars,
9:48
you also are going to want to put those
9:50
people somewhere, which means there's
9:51
going to be exciting things to happen.
9:53
Um, I'm personally excited for this. I I
9:58
keep saying, what are they going to
9:59
theme it? But we already have Pixar, we
10:00
already have Toy Story, and we already
10:01
have Mickey and Friends. So, Marvel or
10:04
Star Wars maybe
10:05
>> or or Pandora. You're right. It could be
10:07
Pandora.
10:08
>> Yeah. You know, I can't Where did we
10:10
park? Oh, I think we parked on Jake
10:12
Skully. That's where we parked.
10:14
>> Just off the top of my head, I wouldn't
10:15
be surprised if it's Star Wars,
10:17
>> which I would be fine with.
10:18
>> I mean, it could be Marvel, too. Either
10:20
one, I could totally see. Um,
10:22
>> but um I think this is great. I think
10:25
this is a signal of change. Um, but I
10:28
don't think that this is a big exciting
10:31
announcement that everybody is standing
10:33
on their feet cheering for at the parks
10:35
panel.
10:36
>> I don't think it should have ever been
10:37
at parks panel either way. Uh, if you
10:40
were going to make an announcement, do
10:41
it in one of those little panels that
10:43
that popped out in the uh the
10:45
Imagineering Pavilion or something. And
10:47
as an aside, like not even a full
10:49
announcement because I just don't think
10:50
there's enough information they're
10:52
willing to put out publicly yet because
10:54
there is a process for all of these
10:57
things too. Like think for Pixar pals
10:58
how far down the process it was before
11:00
we got details about it. First it's just
11:02
we're building it then they're building
11:04
it and then you have to work your way
11:05
through that and and then then you can
11:08
figure it out. Um
11:09
>> well
11:12
>> I kind of have a transitionary topic so
11:14
if you're still talking I will
11:15
>> I'm still talking. I'm I'm gonna keep
11:16
going on this. Um, but no, I think I
11:19
think that is part of the thing that we
11:21
often forget as fans is Disney has
11:25
they don't just have a plan for how
11:27
they're going to build it. They have a
11:28
plan for how they're going to to talk
11:30
about it and promote it and generate
11:32
excitement for it. And you don't want
11:34
the excitement to peak too early and
11:36
then this instant mentality grat, you
11:39
know, instant gratification mentality um
11:42
society to be like, "Oh, well, this is
11:44
taking too long." like, you know,
11:45
because you can't just build these
11:47
things out of nothing. They do take
11:48
quite some time. I think it was 18
11:50
months maybe for for Pixar Pal and and
11:52
it's going to be a similar size but with
11:54
more amenities. So, um
11:57
>> amenities. I hope there's a jacuzzi.
11:59
>> You just think there's buses, there's
12:01
security, like they're adding more. But,
12:03
um yeah, it'll be interesting to see.
12:05
What were you gonna what were we going
12:06
to add? My transitionary topic was going
12:07
to be you said that this could have been
12:09
announced at, you know, a side stage or
12:11
a side panel much as it was. So, this is
12:16
where I knew I was with my people, by
12:18
the way, at D23, the Ultimate Disney fan
12:19
event. We were all at a
12:23
uh sidstage panel at the Imagineering
12:26
Pavilion
12:27
listening to them talk about how they
12:30
made the um Cars Avengers crossover
12:33
posters. Great. And the Imagineer
12:37
off-handedly says, "Yeah, and you know
12:39
um they're going to be on the wall
12:40
between Cars Land and this um and for a
12:43
few more weeks." And then at the end of
12:45
the month, they're going to go somewhere
12:46
else. And I saw everybody's ears perk up
12:50
like a dog and just go
12:52
>> all five of us that were actually there.
12:54
[laughter]
12:55
>> And then immediately everybody turns to
12:57
each other in the circle and goes,
12:58
>> "Weard,
12:59
>> that's opening, right? That's that's
13:01
opening at the end of the month, right?"
13:02
Mhm.
13:03
>> Which is one of those funny moments
13:05
because uh I think that frequently as
13:08
Disney fans, we live in a world where we
13:12
are kind of the only people that know
13:13
what we're talking about. Like we'll
13:15
catch something or we'll say something
13:16
and a average Disney fan or guest is
13:19
going to go, "Okay, that sounds crazy,
13:23
but sure." And it's so fun to be with
13:26
our people that all go, "Wait."
13:28
>> Well, and especially when they're at the
13:29
level of depth of knowledge that we have
13:32
where you can throw something abstract
13:35
like that out as an aside. Yeah.
13:37
>> And everybody knows immediately what
13:39
you're talking about and that that's
13:40
breaking news. Um that honestly I was
13:43
surprised all of us were good and did
13:45
not like we would have all been
13:47
completely within our rights to report
13:48
on that and nobody did. um just because
13:51
it would have probably come back and
13:52
gotten him in a little bit of trouble.
13:54
Um I don't know for sure. It might have.
13:56
>> I don't know.
13:56
>> Like I don't know. That might have been
13:58
approved,
13:59
>> but everybody was good eggs.
14:00
>> Yeah. Who knows? Um along with this goes
14:03
along with this project is not only did
14:05
we get the brown groundbreaking
14:08
but we got the booth breaking as well
14:10
which happened overnight because I
14:11
walked by yesterday the ticket booths in
14:15
the northeast corner of the esplanade
14:17
that have been demolished in the last
14:19
what 24 hours now and and that will be
14:23
kind of the area where you're walking in
14:25
over this bridge that goes over Harbor
14:28
Boulevard and into the new esplenot at
14:30
some point whenever This is done. And
14:33
it's such a weird thing to watch these
14:35
things disappear because I can remember
14:37
the original ticket booths that were in
14:40
front of Main Gate and you went out into
14:42
the parking lot. There was that path
14:43
that went out in the middle and all of
14:45
that stuff. And I remember those
14:46
disappearing for the most part. And you
14:48
know, there's one out at the uh the
14:49
train museum in the middle of nowhere
14:51
and they pop up here and there. And then
14:53
they make the new ticket booths that
14:55
were really big. And I remember at the
14:56
time thinking like, "Oh, these are
14:57
really um in your face." like they just
15:00
felt
15:01
>> they didn't feel as welcoming or as
15:03
charming as what we had before. And now
15:05
we're in this era where you really don't
15:07
even need ticket booths because we do
15:09
everything on our phones. And um
15:13
>> it's such a weird era to be living
15:15
through because you go from everything
15:17
at a ticket booth to some things well
15:20
when they first opened them a lot
15:21
happens still at the ticket booth. In
15:23
fact, that's that's where I remember
15:24
buying uh annual passes. What? Oh, I was
15:29
going to say this is where you remember
15:30
buying your very specific DCA annual
15:32
pass
15:33
>> in my DCA annual pass that I didn't keep
15:35
and um and then now we looked this where
15:38
they really are they've outlived their
15:41
usefulness. So, uh Disney to its credits
15:43
getting rid of them and uh and I'm I'm
15:46
very curious to see what and it's not
15:50
going to be an empty esplanade but like
15:52
what that looks like when it's gone.
15:53
>> Well, and I remember
15:54
>> are gone.
15:55
Uh even I am I'm only turning 30 like in
16:00
a monthish. Um but even then as an adult
16:04
the first time I bought my own annual
16:06
pass was at a ticket booth because it
16:08
was not an option to do it online. Um
16:10
and so that's very rapid how things have
16:12
changed. I also remember that every time
16:14
I got a premiere pass was at those
16:16
ticket booths [laughter]
16:18
because uh even when the option was
16:20
online, you did have to do that at a
16:21
ticket booth. Um, I think that like you
16:26
said, they absolutely served a purpose
16:28
for what they needed to, and that is a
16:32
world that simply doesn't really exist
16:35
or uh exists in such a small capacity
16:37
that potentially things could be moved
16:39
to guest relation windows or what have
16:42
you. Um, I will
16:44
>> I'm assuming we get a new one of those.
16:46
I'm assuming they're going to make it a
16:47
little bit more
16:48
>> I would assume so
16:49
>> fluid and easy to go to. But there was
16:51
something so nice about a warm summer
16:54
day and you had to go talk to the ticket
16:55
booth for something and you could feel
16:56
the air conditioning
16:58
>> from the t and you were like or when it
17:01
was the uh
17:03
it was not the year of a million dreams
17:05
when you got in for free on your
17:06
birthday
17:07
>> and if it was a um you were already a
17:10
passholder you could get a something
17:13
else I don't remember but you had to do
17:14
that at the ticket booth. There's
17:16
there's a lot of fond memories, but as I
17:20
say, fond memories don't uh require that
17:23
we keep things around. If things are no
17:25
longer useful, we do not need them.
17:27
>> And sometimes that means putting in new
17:29
things like a restroom between Cars Land
17:32
and Avengers.
17:33
>> So, there is a new walkway and restroom
17:35
between Cars Land and Avengers campus.
17:38
It looks fantastic. We've walked through
17:40
there and uh got great photos and video
17:43
from uh Matt and Mike and um what do you
17:47
think of this new walkway and and
17:50
restroom? Cars themed restroom.
17:52
>> So, one, I love that it's cars themed,
17:54
but two um perhaps the biggest thing,
17:57
and I've been saying this since uh we
18:00
lost bugs, I don't love when there is a
18:03
dead end in DCA. Yes. Um, that is one of
18:07
the toughest things, especially in
18:10
California Adventure, because it doesn't
18:12
happen as much in Disneyland. Um, when
18:14
something truly deadends, um, especially
18:18
Cars Land Avengers Campus area, that is
18:20
such a choke point. Um, the bright like
18:24
the the added positive to this is that I
18:27
think the theming is really fun. I think
18:29
it's really cool. Um, I really like how
18:32
there are nods to both Avengers and
18:35
Cars, but it's very true to that Cars
18:37
theme. Um, I have not used the bathroom.
18:42
Um, but I still will say,
18:45
although it is currently behind walls,
18:48
the Route 66 bathroom in DCA is still
18:50
the best one.
18:50
>> You can still use it. There's just walls
18:52
there.
18:52
>> Oh, I can still use the bathroom.
18:53
>> Yeah, there's just walls around it.
18:54
>> Um, the Route 66 bathroom is still
18:56
themed to original DCA 1.0, as is the
18:58
one on Buest Street. I like the
19:00
>> for a few more weeks or months or who
19:02
knows what. Um, we'll see how much
19:04
longer those last. Yeah, I think it
19:06
looks great. I love the transition
19:07
between Cars Land and Avengers. Um, it's
19:11
interesting how it changed the vibe,
19:13
whereas before it felt like you're kind
19:14
of going off into the to the woods, now
19:17
it just feels like you're you're staying
19:19
in the city or in the town and you're
19:21
going into Avengers Campus. So, it
19:23
almost makes it feel more cityish,
19:25
>> but um but I thought it looks great. Um,
19:27
I will be curious what they put between
19:29
Avengers Campus and Cars Land
19:31
permanently. Will that be a wall? Will
19:33
that be rock work? Will that be
19:35
greenery? Like, there's so many
19:37
different things they could do um to
19:40
make sure that that story
19:43
transitions really well between the two
19:45
lands. And I'll be excited to see what
19:46
that is. And to hide the sherin from
19:49
Avengers Campus because you can see
19:50
through it right now. But
19:53
>> great point, Mr. Daps.
19:54
>> It's It's great. It's fantastic. Uh, but
19:56
there's a ton of other projects that are
19:58
behind walls right now. And this is
19:59
where we'd love to hear from you in the
20:00
chat if you are still chatting away as
20:03
you should. So, just domestically,
20:06
we have the Coco attraction. We have
20:09
Aven I'm just picking big ones by the
20:10
way. Uh, Avengers Campus expansion. We
20:13
don't have Tomorrowland yet because the
20:15
walls haven't gone up for that, but we
20:16
did notice some interesting paint
20:17
yesterday. Um,
20:18
>> but we do have a wall
20:21
>> there. Well, yes. So, we'll leave
20:24
Tomorrowland then. Uh, then we have
20:26
Tropical Americas with both Encanto and
20:29
Indiana Jones and the Carousel. And then
20:31
you have Piston Peak, you have Villains
20:33
Land, and you have Carousel of Progress,
20:34
which are the big domestic projects off
20:37
the top of my head. Um, as I'm thinking
20:39
about this,
20:40
>> um, of all of these, what is it now?
20:43
Seven.
20:45
>> What is the one that stands out to you
20:47
as the most exciting thing to see what's
20:49
behind that wall whenever it open? Oh,
20:52
and Monstropolis eight.
20:56
>> Um, I know that you were just counting,
20:57
but it did sound like you went
20:59
Monstropolis eight.
21:01
>> Um, and I was like, "Okay, Diva, who is
21:03
this diva?"
21:04
>> Sure.
21:05
>> Uh,
21:05
>> eight. Um,
21:08
>> so the Disneyland side of me wants to
21:09
say the Coco attraction because I'm
21:11
very, very, very excited about what that
21:13
brings to the Disneyland Resort. Um, but
21:16
my Disney Parks fan brain is saying
21:19
Piston Peak because everything that I
21:21
saw at D23, the ultimate Disney fan
21:23
event, every um everything they talked
21:26
about, all of the original characters,
21:29
um the ways that they were like, uh,
21:33
they went off-roading in a Jeep and then
21:37
they went, "This was really fun, but how
21:39
could my mom experience this or how
21:41
could uh my nephew experience this or
21:44
whatever? And so I think it's that
21:45
really fun, adventurous spirit, but
21:48
making it um family oriented. And I also
21:52
think it's just going to be really
21:53
pretty.
21:54
>> I'm just really excited about it.
21:56
>> Yeah, that model was fantastic at um
21:59
D23. In fact, I wish I'd spent more time
22:02
just standing there. Like I spent
22:03
probably 20 minutes to a half an hour
22:05
one one evening. Uh I think it was
22:07
Sunday night actually. Uh watch just
22:09
like looking at it, listening to people
22:11
talk about it, watching it come to life
22:13
in front of me, realizing the different
22:15
sight lines, realizing that building
22:17
that everybody's been talking about
22:18
behind Haunted Mansion is yet another
22:20
restroom, which I'm wondering if there's
22:22
a rule that each land has to have two
22:24
restrooms like that they're building
22:26
now. I'm just starting to think this
22:28
>> except
22:29
>> because like New Orleans Square doesn't
22:30
have two and
22:31
>> Liberty Square does not have any.
22:33
>> Yeah, but like New Lands.
22:35
>> I know.
22:35
>> Like I'm thinking Cars Land.
22:37
>> Cars Land. Um
22:39
>> Galaxy's Edge has two.
22:41
>> I guess Avengers now has two.
22:43
>> Galaxy's Edge.
22:44
>> I mean, you could make the argument that
22:45
Avengers still has one, but it depends
22:48
on how you because technically that is
22:50
in Cars Land.
22:51
>> Okay. So, I don't know like
22:52
>> cuz Bugs Land. Well, I mean, and that's
22:54
the thing is that [clears throat]
22:55
>> the beginning of a trend is is just what
22:56
I was like, oh, are they trying to fit
22:58
two restrooms in each one?
23:00
>> I do think you always need more
23:00
restrooms.
23:01
>> Uh, but like the snow on Piston Peak,
23:03
the connection, like it definitely did
23:06
feel like going through a Colorado
23:10
um campground, like national park, and
23:13
and so I think they're going to denail
23:15
that really well. And I think I think
23:17
that'll be a lot of fun. Um, I'm finding
23:21
myself really driven or pulled towards
23:24
uh tropical Americas, surprisingly
23:26
enough, which is not not well partially
23:30
like
23:31
>> I'm not a tropical guy. Like I would
23:33
prefer national parks, ocean, like
23:37
things like that, Disney sea stuff.
23:40
However, I love what they're doing with
23:43
the the Encanto attraction. like the way
23:46
they're doing depth perception with that
23:49
and sight lines and all of that stuff
23:50
was fun to see um this last week on uh
23:54
I'm forgetting
23:55
>> we call it Imagineering and and then
23:58
even more excited is I love what we're
24:00
seeing for the Indiana Jones attraction
24:03
um just between the giant
24:07
snake basically the but perhaps most
24:10
important though that I'm excited about
24:12
is that facade on the front
24:14
>> because
24:16
One of the coolest parts of of Indiana
24:18
Jones Adventure Disneyland is getting to
24:20
walk through the dig. And I feel like
24:22
they're setting that that up in a new
24:24
way that's going to be completely
24:26
different. And I would tend to guess
24:27
there'll be a few like gimmicks or nods
24:30
to things here or maybe even in Tokyo
24:32
Disney Se. But um just the fact that
24:36
that it's taking a different direction
24:38
with a different story and the story
24:40
totally fits in with both Disney's
24:44
Animal Kingdom and
24:47
the Maya backstory. Like everything like
24:49
I just love the amount of of care and
24:52
detail that they're putting into this,
24:54
which is what we're seeing in all of
24:56
these these um projects, whether it's
24:59
Avengers Campus or Coco or whatever.
25:01
We're seeing lots and lots of focus on
25:04
getting it right and focusing on
25:07
creating experiences that the whole
25:10
family will enjoy. Like I think that's
25:12
going to be one of the major wins with
25:14
both the the um Coco attraction, but
25:17
then you go, you know, Piston Peak, take
25:19
your take your choice. Um, it really
25:22
does seem like they're really trying to
25:24
lean into the family thing as opposed
25:26
to, oh, we need to catch up with
25:28
everybody else with thrill attractions
25:30
or, oh, we need to do,
25:32
>> you know, whatever. I hope we get a
25:33
decoder the decoder cards with with the
25:36
new attraction. Like, that would be a
25:38
huge win. Although, I could imagine them
25:40
putting it in the app or something.
25:41
>> Well, no, because the Play Disney parks
25:43
app is being retired.
25:44
>> Yeah, I'm assuming a lot of it's going
25:46
to get incorporated into the uh the what
25:49
is it? my Disney Experience app. Um, or
25:53
not even that. You could just use your
25:55
phone and use augmented reality or
25:58
something. I think there's ways they can
26:00
make this happen.
26:02
But I do think Imagineering has a solid
26:05
track record right now. Is everything
26:07
100% a home run? No. But they're hitting
26:11
things pretty good. And I think most of
26:13
the things that we've seen come out in
26:15
the last couple of years have really
26:16
been impressive and give you a good
26:19
reason to look forward to what's coming
26:20
next.
26:21
>> I also think that not everything is a
26:23
home run for every person. What may be a
26:25
home run for you is not a home run for
26:26
me.
26:27
>> Um because we all like different things
26:29
and that is the beauty of Disney parks.
26:33
That's amazing. Um but for some people
26:35
they might uh villains Land might be a
26:38
total no-go. They're like, you know
26:40
what, I have no interest. Um, that might
26:42
give me nightmares. I want nothing to do
26:44
with that. But
26:46
>> I want to go.
26:48
>> Well, yeah, we know. But Carousel of
26:51
Progress might be 100% up their alley.
26:54
And that
26:55
>> and I think that it's so easy for Disney
26:57
fans to get caught up and say, "Oh,
26:59
Villains Land. This is everybody's going
27:01
to love this. This is they're going to
27:03
theme it so well." But there's still
27:05
going to be people that go, "This just
27:06
doesn't speak to me."
27:07
>> I'm not much of a villains person. I'm a
27:09
Disney princess kind of gal. Um, I like
27:12
sunshine and rainbows and happiness and
27:14
love. Um, do I think it's going to be
27:16
cool? Yeah. It won't be the place I
27:18
spend all my time, per se. Um, I will
27:21
say what they did at D23, the ultimate
27:23
Disney fan event for the Coco attraction
27:25
was genius because anyone who
27:28
participated now
27:29
>> I'm in the ride.
27:30
>> Now [laughter] has
27:31
>> It's kind of funny they didn't do that
27:32
from Instropolis because there is an
27:34
almost Mike Wisowski element to that.
27:36
>> Yeah.
27:36
>> Like look Ma, I'm under the tree. Yeah.
27:39
Uh, but we do now all have this um
27:43
camaraderie of we put a note of our
27:45
favorite Disneyland memory and it is
27:47
being buried under a tree.
27:50
>> I will say go back and look at the uh
27:54
Coco attraction concept art.
27:56
>> Uhhuh.
27:57
>> Because there's an interesting thing
27:58
there.
27:58
>> Is there no tree? [laughter]
28:00
>> I don't know about that.
28:02
>> Okay.
28:03
>> Mama Coco.
28:04
>> Yeah. in one of the pieces of concept
28:06
art
28:07
>> a friend of mine posted and I hope this
28:09
wasn't a prank on her part,
28:12
>> but it showed her in both in the same
28:14
photo
28:16
>> as
28:18
Grandma Coco, Mama Coco and ghost
28:20
version literally standing right next to
28:22
each other.
28:24
>> It's in the one where he is on the
28:27
little like island and the boat is going
28:28
around it.
28:30
>> Okay.
28:30
>> And they're off to the right. So,
28:32
somebody fact check me on this and um
28:35
you know, maybe on DAPS after dark we'll
28:36
have an answer by then. But um but who
28:39
knows? I think I think it's time. We've
28:40
had plenty of conversation. So, you're
28:42
looking forward to Piston Peak. I'm
28:44
looking forward to Tropical Americas.
28:45
I'm actually looking forward to all of
28:46
these things. I think this is such a
28:48
great time to be a Disney fan. Um and
28:51
Tomorrowland obviously is at the top of
28:53
the list and Imagination Pavilion is
28:55
also at the top of the list. But I kind
28:56
of
28:56
>> we get walls for those. I I kind of feel
28:58
like that's unfair at this point to go
29:00
down that, but um it's a great time to
29:02
be a Disney fan because they are
29:04
listening to fans. They're they're
29:06
trying to make as many fans happy with
29:09
the decision decisions they're making
29:11
and I think that's just a a wonderful
29:13
thing and a really great long-term
29:15
business plan. And I hope that they
29:17
stick with it for the long term because
29:18
that would be the huge win. But now it
29:20
is time for
29:26
comments. Comments.
29:30
>> That is right. It is time for comments.
29:31
So, if you have anything you'd like us
29:33
to respond to, put it in the chat and we
29:35
will scroll through these really quickly
29:37
in the next few minutes before we wrap
29:39
up the night. Uh, I see. Yes, Geeks
29:43
Corner. And the sun is still up.
29:45
>> Sun is still kind of up.
29:46
>> Kind of up. Yeah. Um, early Geeks
29:48
Corner. It should be fun. I'm glad you
29:50
think so. Uh, inventions each will work
29:53
perfectly with Muppet. I would love a
29:55
new Muppet Labs in the Muppet Show in
29:58
2027. And if that happens, um, I would
30:01
like to see them build a replicator.
30:04
>> Of course you want to see them build a
30:06
replicator.
30:06
>> Wouldn't it be funny though? Like, think
30:07
of a million beers.
30:09
>> Yes.
30:10
>> Because, you know, it'd be Beaker and
30:11
then they'd have to figure it out and it
30:12
would be kind of like Muppet Vision.
30:14
like it have that nod to Muppet Vision,
30:17
>> but also not because it' be an actual
30:19
replicator. I don't know.
30:21
>> I mean,
30:23
I like it.
30:24
>> Okay, there you go.
30:25
>> Okay, I like it.
30:26
>> Uh, should The Muppet Show be devoted to
30:28
Pirates of the Caribbean with Johnny
30:29
Depp as Captain Sparrow performing as
30:31
guest star on the show? Yeah, that'd be
30:33
a great idea. Why not? Like, I I think
30:36
that's a lot of fun. Um,
30:39
>> oh, for you all being the sun is out.
30:42
How is a Coke cherry coke zero cherry?
30:45
>> Yeah, I'm curious. I I do like a good
30:47
cherry coke. So,
30:48
>> he loves a cherry coke. He also loves
30:49
diet coke. So, we're we've been
30:50
wondering
30:51
>> if there was a diet I had diet cherry
30:53
coke and it kind of exploded all over
30:55
the place. Like it wasn't
30:57
>> it wasn't balanced right. So, it was
31:00
like lots of purple stuff coming out. I
31:01
wasn't a huge huge fan of it. Matt's
31:04
first time in DCA was all Walls. We went
31:07
in and out [laughter] downtown. Oh,
31:09
yeah. That was a great era. Yeah, that
31:12
>> but there was no entrance.
31:13
>> That was very fun to California
31:14
Adventure.
31:15
>> That's also Was that right before after
31:19
they had the fun um quotes on the walls
31:23
as you went around what would become
31:24
Buenav Vista Street. Um
31:26
>> miss that.
31:28
>> Uh
31:30
walls at Disney video.
31:31
>> It's a video of walls specifically at
31:33
Animal Kingdom.
31:34
>> There you go. Um
31:36
>> I think it was near Pandora. I don't
31:38
remember what it was for.
31:40
There you go. All right. We did lose
31:42
three people this week, which is very
31:43
sad. Dolly Parton, Tim Curry, and Peter
31:45
Cullen. And and I'm just going to say
31:47
that's all sad.
31:49
Um,
31:50
not a D23 worthy announcement again.
31:53
Yep. If they had details, yes. If no
31:56
details, no. Agreed. Uh, good themes.
32:00
Uh, structure signifies the start of
32:02
Disneyland Ford and a huge expansion,
32:04
not just a garage. Totally true.
32:07
uh Star Wars themed, well established
32:09
Igot characters or a princess lot. See,
32:13
I
32:13
>> I like the sidekicks lot
32:15
>> and I've [clears throat] been inspired.
32:16
I think a princess lot would be great.
32:18
>> I also think we should just go look at
32:20
the uh Walt Disney World different lots
32:22
and see what they have.
32:23
>> Heroes, villains
32:24
>> to see it could be
32:26
>> um
32:27
>> they could do a heroes and villains.
32:29
>> There is like Star Wars at Hollywood
32:31
Studios.
32:34
I think there's Lion King. Um,
32:37
>> we're getting rid of Simba.
32:38
>> Clocky says they should have an Avengers
32:40
car in Cars Land. I love that idea. Or
32:43
super. Maybe that's the next Cars movie
32:45
is a superhero.
32:46
>> Okay, Cars, too. Um,
32:48
>> no, that was that was Spy. Super spy and
32:51
superhero are very different things.
32:53
>> Well, if you go watch our video of how
32:55
they designed the posters for Cars and
32:58
Avengers crossovers, they had to be very
33:00
specific about making models of cars.
33:02
They had to be very specific about uh
33:03
their eyes, their mouths. Um, all of it
33:06
was fascinating. Um, so watch that and
33:10
then maybe one of those cars could make
33:11
it into Cars Land.
33:14
>> Uh, Mikey's looking forward to Piston
33:16
Peak, which I'm glad to hear. And, uh,
33:18
the restroom the opposite side of
33:20
Haunted Mansion. Very fair. Um, I would
33:24
have been more excited to see a fifth
33:27
Carsland gate hotel at Walt Disney
33:30
World.
33:31
>> A whole Carsland gate. Okay,
33:34
>> that's a that's a lot.
33:36
>> The trick would be I think with that is
33:38
they already have a hotel with a ton of
33:40
cars.
33:40
>> Correct. Art of Animation.
33:42
>> Yeah.
33:42
>> Yeah. They have a mini Radiator Springs.
33:45
>> But I do think there's room, and this is
33:47
me speaking off the top of my head
33:49
without researching this. I do feel like
33:51
there could be in the future a
33:53
possibility for a villain's hotel back
33:57
on the would it be West's end of
34:00
Villains Land.
34:02
How's that for my wild idea?
34:04
>> What's behind Villains Land, I guess.
34:06
>> Yeah, it's what's behind Yeah, there you
34:08
go. Um,
34:12
Animal Kingdom favorite least favorite
34:14
park with Indiana Jones. That might be
34:16
the cause of a couple more visits per
34:17
year. I think that's a great idea. I am
34:19
looking forward to uh getting out there
34:21
and getting a video of that. Um,
34:26
memory card was pure genius.
34:29
Um, yeah, that was very good idea. Um,
34:33
>> okay. See, everyone is saying they don't
34:34
see it.
34:37
>> I'm gonna have to go look. Um,
34:40
>> Cherry Coke Zero is the only zero
34:42
flavored Coke product I actually enjoy.
34:44
Well, good luck in Japan because there
34:46
is no Diet Coke. There is only CocaCola
34:49
or Coke Zero. And if you do not drink
34:51
Coca-Cola,
34:54
you drink a lot of Coke Zero.
34:55
>> Um, what do we think the rush to tear
34:56
down the ticket booths? I think you need
34:57
to get them gone so that you can move on
34:59
to the next phase. Like it's literally
35:02
you need to clear that up and it needs
35:04
to be usable space for either
35:06
construction or walking. And and I think
35:10
space is going to be at a premium
35:12
especially on the east side of the
35:13
esplanade because they're going to need,
35:15
you know, staging areas for building the
35:17
bridge and the new entrance and the new
35:19
security and all of that stuff. And
35:20
you're going to have to still have
35:22
people coming in during all of that,
35:23
too. So, I think there's going to be
35:24
some juggling. um happening there as
35:28
well. uh heroes and villains would be
35:29
good then it is two characters you can
35:31
try to remember
35:32
>> like oh we parked on a Peter Pay and
35:35
Hook right
35:36
>> like a heroes and villains like that is
35:38
the level
35:39
>> or what if we just mismatch uh heroes
35:42
and villains
35:44
>> or just go level by level
35:45
>> like no no no like
35:47
>> no I'm thinking actually logical go
35:49
level by level
35:51
>> and I'm trying to be funny
35:54
level one Sleeping Beauty and Jafar
35:56
level too. Um,
36:01
I am suddenly blanking on every Disney
36:03
character and every uh Disney villain to
36:05
ever exist, but
36:09
>> the Queen of Hearts.
36:10
>> Sure.
36:11
>> And Wendy.
36:14
>> Sure.
36:15
>> I don't know.
36:16
>> But see, like, what if?
36:18
>> What if? And then we have an animated
36:20
series that is a whatif based on the
36:24
parking lot inspired by your favorite
36:27
parking structure.
36:28
>> So are you talking about descendants or
36:30
are you talking about uh was it happily
36:33
ever uh what was the other show? The
36:35
show where they
36:36
>> Oh, Once Upon a Time.
36:37
>> Once upon a [laughter] time. It's like
36:38
not Happily Ever After. It's Once Upon a
36:40
Time. All right, we are running out of
36:41
time. What should people do, Katie?
36:43
>> You should go to dapsmagic.com. Check
36:45
out all the Disney and positive stuff as
36:47
it happens. You should subscribe to our
36:49
mailing list so you do not miss any of
36:51
it. And also go to dapshq.com
36:54
because if you liked this foolishness,
36:56
there is a lot more foolishness to see.
36:58
>> What kind of foolishness would you like
37:00
to see? There you go. All right. Make
37:02
sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel
37:03
as well. We've got a ton of videos going
37:05
up from Halloween time, Ogie Bash, uh,

37:11
Japan, Paris, and I think that's it for
37:15
it right now. um and and some stuff from
37:17
Disneyland as well. But that is all the
37:20
time we have for you this week. So we
37:21
will see you around the corner.
37:23
