Hi. Hello.
0:08
I heard that.
0:09
I heard somebody from your group was
0:11
going to be here. I didn't know that.
0:13
Good to see you.
0:15
What a pleasant treat.
0:21
Welcome.
0:25
Hi everyone.
0:26
Hello.
0:27
Welcome.
0:28
All right. Well, uh, hi. Thanks for
0:31
being here. We are so excited for the
0:33
artisans club at Cotino to open and, uh,
0:36
I have been working with the team on
0:38
some really unique programs that we
0:40
cannot wait to deliver. U, these are
0:43
things that only Disney can provide. So,
0:45
think about events and entertainment,
0:48
some personal enrichment, health and
0:50
wellness, and even some excursions
0:52
offsite around the region. So, we're
0:56
thrilled for our members to be able to
0:57
choose uh what programs are going to be
1:00
best for them and what they want to do
1:02
to write their next chapter of their
1:03
story. So things like a painting class
1:07
with a Disney artist or Disney animator,
1:10
a uh health and wellness program
1:12
inspired by Disney characters, a
1:14
photography class with a National
1:16
Geographic expert, or uh learning about
1:20
uh history live in person with our
1:22
friends from the Walt Disney Archives
1:23
like Becky here. Uh so we are going to
1:26
have a group programs, a calendar that
1:30
our members will be able to select from
1:32
and experience. And as we get to know
1:34
them a bit more, we're going to start
1:36
tailoring those offerings to make sure
1:37
that everything is relevant for them. Do
1:40
they have any special interests,
1:41
hobbies, um things that they are want to
1:44
do that they want to learn about from a
1:45
Disney perspective? And we will bring
1:47
them in. I mentioned um excursions. Uh
1:51
those we've got a few um examples
1:54
planned. Palm Springs Air Museum has
1:56
Walt Disney's plane. Uh we can't wait to
2:00
uh take our members over there. We'll
2:02
also do things like going to uh
2:05
Disneyland, but after we bring in a
2:07
creative show director to talk about a
2:09
new parade or nighttime spectacular,
2:11
talk about creative concepts, how they
2:14
were inspired to do something specific.
2:16
And then the members will get to go and
2:18
check it out, you know, with that kind
2:20
of inside information. And so, uh, we'll
2:23
take them there and then to places like
2:25
the Walt Disney Archives. So, we'll
2:26
bring Becky and her team in to to speak
2:30
and to bring these very cool assets uh
2:32
like we have here today, but we'll also
2:34
take the groups um over to the Walt
2:36
Disney Studios lot and let them
2:38
experience it there as well.
2:40
And we're really excited. We've been
2:42
working with with Kristen and her team
2:43
for quite a while since this project was
2:46
launched and we're really excited to see
2:48
it opening. Um it's been like a long
2:50
time, but we've been involved in it from
2:52
the very beginning to help uh kind of
2:54
ideate create these ideas for great pro
2:57
programming that will be unique to this
3:00
area. We're hoping to do some things
3:02
that you can only see here for the
3:03
residents that are here. And like
3:05
Christa said, to to become interested in
3:07
what they want to see and what they
3:08
enjoy and what they're particularly
3:10
drawn to, which is is going to be really
3:13
wonderful. Uh, another opportunity of
3:15
course is to bring down some programs
3:17
that we do in other parts of the company
3:18
that other people haven't had the
3:20
opportunity to see. We do a lot of
3:21
programs all over the world and it's an
3:23
opportunity to bring them here to
3:25
Southern California. Of course, I'd love
3:27
to talk about Walt Disney himself and uh
3:29
his connections to this area are very
3:32
broad. Walt started here in the 1930s.
3:35
He came down here and built a home here
3:37
in 1948. It was really important to him.
3:40
This was one of his happy places, his
3:42
laughing places. He loved to come down
3:44
here to get away from the stress of the
3:45
studio to relax and to kind of rewind
3:48
and re-energize. But he was also very
3:50
inspiring by this area. And he brought
3:53
other artists down from the studio and
3:55
made with artists that lived here. And
3:58
his interest in western themes and
4:00
cowboy art and things like that were um
4:03
something that came for his time here.
4:05
So what we decided to do is to bring a
4:07
few pieces down to celebrate Walt's
4:09
connections to this area. There is uh
4:11
this is just a temporary display for
4:13
today to share with all of you, but
4:15
there's going to be rotating series of
4:16
exhibits here in the um in
4:19
the member services lobby.
4:20
Member services. So, there's a little
4:22
exhibit there. So, make sure you see
4:23
that before you leave. But um our team
4:26
is going to come down and we're rotating
4:28
for the residents here to enjoy and
4:29
share with our guests. But this
4:31
particular exhibit just celebrates a few
4:33
things. It's film and television and
4:36
parks, but also involves connections to
4:39
other people here in the the valley.
4:41
We'll start with this one. This is a
4:43
painting by a man named Clyde Foresight.
4:45
This was made in 1943 and it was given
4:47
to him by Clyde. It's a smoke tree and
4:50
that is a a plant that is indigenous to
4:52
this area, very famous in this valley.
4:54
But um Clyde was a very famous artist in
4:57
this area, especially for his western
4:59
art. And Walt really admired him as an
5:02
artist and they became really good
5:03
friends. Uh, another piece of art that I
5:05
love here kind of illustrates Walt's
5:07
cowboy culture uh, interests uh, when in
5:11
1941 Walt Disney and his artists went
5:14
down to South America on the at the
5:16
behest of the government to do a kind of
5:18
a goodwill thing and so they decided to
5:20
make a film about South America culture
5:23
and it ended up being a film called
5:24
Solos Amigos. While he was down there,
5:26
Walt Disney met a very famous
5:28
Argentinian painter named after Molina
5:31
Compos and they got to be friends.
5:33
Compost was very excited about meeting
5:35
Malt and a few years later in 1943 he
5:38
came to visit all of the studio and he
5:40
gave him this painting to commemorate
5:42
their meeting. And so it's a lovely kind
5:44
of caricature of their meeting and it's
5:47
it's he called it Pats which I thought
5:49
was very cute but it's signed there to
5:51
the great vault encouragement from him.
5:54
So that's a these are special pieces
5:56
special directly to Walton himself. This
5:58
is a Bobby card from the film True Life
6:00
Adventure. It's called The Living
6:02
Desert. Living Desert was shot in
6:04
several desert locations in Arizona and
6:07
here in the Coachella Valley. So it was
6:08
actually shot here in World and that
6:10
film won an Academy Award. We don't
6:12
forget film came out in 1953 and the
6:14
Academy Award was given in 1954. And so
6:17
um that has a very very direct tie to
6:20
this area. Mickey Mouse Club of course
6:23
is a television show started in 1955 and
6:26
they had a talent roundup day. Walt
6:28
Disney loved the western theming uh and
6:31
and he did a lot of western themed films
6:33
and television shows. But of course,
6:35
Spit and Marty, which you see there on
6:36
the cover of Mickey Mouse and Club
6:38
magazine. And the Mickey Mouse
6:40
musketeers um performed in western gear
6:44
and the little boots there are are
6:46
during Tracy. He's one of the main
6:47
musketeers. And this is a hat from one
6:50
of the kids on the show. this piece
6:52
that's pretty banged up and it's what's
6:56
left really of the Frontier Land stage
6:58
coach. That was a piece that was the
7:00
very first attraction that was built for
7:01
Disneyland and they built it up at the
7:03
studio and we have photos of Walt
7:05
driving it around the studio a lot and
7:08
uh this was taken down of course to
7:09
Disneyland prior to opening and it was
7:12
something you could ride on in nature's
7:13
wonderland as well as packs and mine
7:16
train and conover wagon all kinds of
7:18
things there. Uh sadly it was made out
7:20
of wood. It been survived the last 70
7:22
years as well as some of our other
7:24
pieces but um pieces of it were given to
7:27
the Walt Disney archives when it had to
7:28
be distributed. Um and so we have this
7:32
signage from we also have a wagon wheel
7:34
and from the original stage edge but
7:37
this shows love. There are some photos
7:39
in the in the other room in the other
7:41
display. You can see a photo of Mo
7:43
driving the stage edge and I believe
7:44
that was the Palm Desert Service which
7:46
was a very big celebration here locally.
7:50
the 1930s I think started in the mid80s
7:54
mid 80s. Yeah.
7:55
So Walt and Roy both came and visited
7:57
the service and you know rode horses and
8:00
became grand marshal and things like
8:02
that. So they love this desert and they
8:05
love doing charitable work here.
8:07
supporting charitable work here in the
8:10
valley and of course all that his long
8:13
bowling tournaments and all of the
8:15
things that he did and his vacation home
8:17
here and rode in the mountains and and
8:20
enjoyed life here flew that plane back
8:23
and forth all the time. He actually also
8:25
my understanding about after doing some
8:27
research is that he actually was one of
8:29
the people that helped get the airport
8:31
closed
8:32
by endorsing it and getting to build an
8:36
airport here, which of course I know he
8:38
was very happy when it happened because
8:40
instead of having to drive down here
8:42
from LA traffic wasn't so good, but he
8:46
he was able to fly down.
8:51
So, we plan to do lots of presentations,
8:53
things about Walt, all of Walt's TV and
8:56
film and everything else and supporting
8:58
these productions in any way we can.
9:00
We're excited to build upon the legacy
9:02
that Walt created and had out here in
9:04
the desert and and work with our members
9:06
on programs and experiences that uh
9:09
hopefully they will they will remember
9:14
[Music]
9:16
questions.
9:18
What are each of you most excited about
9:20
with this?
9:22
I'll let you answer. I you know I am
9:24
just I'm so excited for our members to
9:26
come through that brains way and just
9:29
experience the club overall. So have you
9:33
know have kids in Cino Bay and uh family
9:38
over at the fire pit and then also
9:40
thinking about this space. Uh so here in
9:42
studio 2 it's more of our art studio.
9:45
really excited for our members to get
9:48
the art class, the painting tips from
9:50
one of our Disney artists and then
9:52
literally step outside this room and
9:54
have the beautiful view of the Sanent
9:56
Mountains and create paintings that they
9:58
can take home or display here in the
10:00
club. I just think that the the full
10:02
experience is is just going to be
10:04
phenomenal.
10:05
I'm just excited about another uh great
10:08
opportunity to to kind of reach out to
10:10
the people I think that are going to
10:11
gravitate towards buying homes here are
10:13
going to be people who are Disney fans
10:14
and just the opportunity to find another
10:17
way to reach out share what's in the
10:19
archives and our love of Disney history
10:21
and Disney specifically
10:23
help them to learn more and be
10:25
entertaining and educational on our
10:27
