Welcome to Geeks Corner. I'm Mr. Daps. I'm Katie. And did you know that incoming Disney CEO Josh Dearo started his Disney career
0:25
at the Disneyland Resort in 1998? You know, I did know that. Yeah. Very good.
0:31
Yeah. He's our He's our local Disneyland boy. He went away. He came back and then he went on to bigger and better things.
0:38
Went away again. He's like the kid that like you know from your hometown that like goes to
0:43
college and then like does crazy things. But you're like, "Oh, but I remember him
0:49
when he was so bonus points. Do you know where he was born?" Oh. Uh,
0:58
no. I I want to say like San Bernardino County or something.
1:05
Try Medfield, Massachusetts. What the heck? Mhm. Very different. Um, and then I'm
1:10
like, is Medfield the name of the city or the school or whatever in all of the old Disney liveaction films? Cuz I'm
1:17
thinking that's the college. I think it's Medfield College, right? It might be. I think it is. Uh, maybe somebody can
1:23
let us know in the comments. We will find out. Speaking of comments, Katie, what should people do? Well, you should subscribe to us
1:29
wherever the heck you're watching because or listening or listening cuz we do cool things. Uh
1:36
you should also go to uh DAPSHQ over at patreon.com/dapsmagic. We do a post show to this show and I
1:42
feel like tonight's going to get real unhinged and which I say every week, but I really mean it. And uh you should also
1:48
go into the comments, go into the chat, go wherever you are because if you're watching live, we have a portion towards
1:54
the end called comments. Comments. That is exactly what it is
1:59
called. But before we get into all of that, the Walt Disney Company has a new CEO. His
2:05
name is Josh Diamaro. He will be taking on the role on March 18th, I believe, the same day of the annual shareholder
2:12
meeting. Is that what that white smoke was about? Did you guys see the picture, though? There was a a meme going around today of
2:18
white smoke coming no out of Cinderella Castle at Walt Disney World. Actually, I saw the Epcot one too, but the um the
2:26
Cinderella Castle one I thought was was the best one. That's very funny. Uh along with him getting the CEO, see
2:32
Medfield College. There we go. Not crazy synergy.
2:37
It was meant to be from the day he was born. Uh Dana Walt will be taking on the
2:43
role of president and chief creative officer, which is a new role that's never been had at the Walt Disney Company before. It's also the first time
2:50
that a female has been a president, even though it's a dual role, like it's it's
2:55
a two-part role role. Um throughout the day, former CEO Michael Eisner
3:02
congratulated both of them. Bob Iger obviously did as well. and uh they were
3:07
interviewed Bob and Josh tonight on ABC News and NBC News. So, they've been all over the place, which I think is very
3:14
funny because the last couple of months I feel like Josh has been very noticeably absent from media events. and
3:21
you know it's cuz they're kind of gearing up for this thing and they're just like um don't want to like have
3:26
anything slip or somebody ask a question they're not supposed to or like notice that he got pulled from all of the the
3:33
videos at Walt Disney World hotels, you know. Um that that kind of stuff. I think they
3:39
should have kept him. I know. I miss do the Michael Eisner approach. I actually was going to say I'm disappointed that Michael Eisner
3:45
didn't create a video message that started with him going hello behind a plant with like a Mickey Mouse tie on.
3:51
Yeah. And his Mickey Mouse watch ears. Yeah. He could wear the ears, too. All right. So, what do we think of Josh
3:58
Dearo being the next CEO of the Walt Disney Company. Katie, you get to go first.
4:03
Wonderful. I actually was forming these thoughts when I was on FaceTime with my parents earlier. Hi, parents. Um, I
4:10
think the thing that I really love about Josh Dearo in a CEO role is he really does care about the guest experience and
4:17
the consumer experience because obviously being the CEO isn't just parks and experiences. It's also going into
4:24
film. It's going into the subsidiaries like the Lucasfilm, the Marvel, the
4:29
everything. sports ball sports ESPN Savannah Bananas like
4:37
um and I think that he is open to feedback
4:42
but he also doesn't let that feedback dictate what the plan is too much u and
4:48
that is an important thing as a leader I know that's not something that we would love to hear as consumers is you know we want our opinions to be valued and heard
4:54
but also as a CEO you get a heck of a lot of opinions so you need to be able to have a very clear vision of what that
5:01
course is going to look like while also having empathy and care. Um, and every
5:07
time we have met Josh Dearo, he's shown that like tenfold. Um, he is always we
5:15
there's this thing we kind of joke about where it's like uh everybody you meet, they have I'm important tattooed across
5:21
my forehead. Um, and Josh Dearo like lives that like every person in front of
5:26
like the most important person in the world to him is the person in front of him and um, he embodies that and I'm
5:33
super super super excited to see what he does with the Walt Disney Company cuz I think he's got a good vision.
5:39
I will say if he's as interested in this new role as he was in my Star Wars tie on the opening day of Star Wars Galaxy's
5:45
Edge, we're in for a good run. Oh my gosh, that was good. You know, he also liked my Baby Yoda hat that one
5:52
time. He was He was very into all Star Wars. Uh I think it's a great thing. I think it's a good move. I've been thinking
5:57
about who would be next for months, if not years now. And uh I think it's
6:03
fairly safe to say that anybody that was a fan or an analyst of Disney that had a
6:09
vested interest six, seven years ago um were were probably not super thrilled with the
6:16
first try at uh succession for Bob Iger. And and I don't think it was a huge surp
6:23
you know sometimes when you're too close to things I I think it can be hard and and so I think one of the great things
6:29
about the Walt Disney Company is they tend to learn from their mistakes. You know we've seen this with events like
6:35
Disneyland After Dark events where something doesn't work as well as it could and you see they've analyzed and
6:40
adjust for the next time. They've clearly done that and you look at the team that was brought in for the board to pick Josh as
6:48
the next CEO. And so you've got James Gorman who just did that very well effectively. Um and every other person
6:56
that was on the um the nominating committee had this type of experience in
7:03
a CE like a new CEO role um in succession in their portfolio. And so
7:09
rather than it being people that were already kind of in the system that know that you have people that maybe are a
7:15
little bit newer and and have also that um
7:23
they could really do their due diligence, I guess you'd say, without being too biased to uh come up with a
7:29
decision of Josh Dearo as CEO and then Dana Walton as president and CCO. And I
7:36
think that's the that's the smart way to do it. It took them I mean it's been almost three I think they announced it
7:41
in 2023 that they were starting the process. Gorman took over in 2024. So basically a year and a half since Gorman
7:48
took over and um and I think they really did it the smart way and it's no surprise that
7:54
it ends up being Dearo and Walden that end up in the top two spots because they're the ones that kind of been
8:00
standing out for a very long time now. Um, as I was thinking about who would get the top spot and how that would work
8:06
out, I really did have to come back to like it looked like it was Josh's to lose to me. Just as I was looking at the
8:13
different things he's done in the last couple of years in his role as chairman of Disney Experiences, like he's done
8:20
some stuff that's on the entertainment side of things, whether it was the incredible Disney Experiences uh panel
8:28
at D23 a couple years ago, working with Epic Games. Um like he's been doing
8:34
stuff that's not necessarily um like he works well with other people,
8:40
I guess, is a good way to put it. and you hear about him being at at at premieres and he's already interacted
8:45
with people in the movie industry and and so it's not an unknown commodity completely. Does everybody in the movie
8:52
industry know who he is? No. But they will like he's he's going to go from
8:57
being a person that probably could go to lots of places and maybe be kind of recognized to he's going to be
9:03
recognized everywhere. Um, I think it's really smart of them to put Dearo and
9:09
Walden together in this role. Um, just because I do think, as has been a huge
9:15
discussion in the Disney community, that Disney is best when it's run by two people. The thing I do think is also
9:20
interesting is this is not a traditional way of doing this. This is not a Walt and Roy. This is not a Michael and uh,
9:28
Frank. This is a Josh and Dana because it's not the creative that's being
9:33
supported by the operational person. You could almost make the op the the argument that it's the other way around.
9:41
And um and that's kind of an interesting thing. But what what I think we've also observed is Josh knows how to pick the
9:48
right talent. And he also seems to recognize things that that are gonna get
9:53
people excited and geek out about whether it's droids or or you know a
9:58
music number at at D23. Like there seems to be some creative openness and elements that he's pretty good with
10:05
and Fortnite. There you go. Um but I think it's interesting because they both
10:10
have some creative chops. I think she's probably stronger in the the movie entertainment creative world, but I do
10:18
think there's an argument to be made that that parks now are almost as important to be
10:24
creative if not more about the same as as entertainmentists.
10:29
Like you have to have that storytelling element and and it's not just recreating the story, it's you know coming up with
10:35
new stories for Avengers Campus or Galaxy's Edge or whatever that is. So, I think it's a fascinating way to move
10:42
this forward. I think they're probably very well positioned to uh to take
10:48
Disney to the next level. And and if you want to go even more into what I think, I did post a uh DAPS Magic, Disney, and
10:55
Positive Stuff podcast earlier today that goes into my thoughts about where they will lead the company and how the
11:02
the Tomorrow era is going to differ than the Aigger era because I really think it
11:08
is a um you know, it's the next chapter in this this story of the Walt Disney Company. Um I also think it's
11:14
interesting the company's 102 years old. Mhm. He will be, depending on how you count
11:21
it, the eighth or the ninth CEO ever. What do you mean depending on how you
11:27
count it? Walt Disney was technically not the CEO. He was the co-founder and I count it.
11:33
So then he would be ninth. Yes. And um and it it'll be interesting to see, you
11:40
know, what this looks like moving forward. And um what are your thoughts on do you have thoughts on Dana Walden?
11:46
I'm also excited to see this uh collaboration for the company. Um
11:52
honestly, and I know this is so especially if you said this 10 years
11:58
ago, it's so sacrilegious to be like, man, the days of like Michael Eisner and Frank Wells, but um you literally had
12:06
a little bit more of an undisiplined version because this was 30 some odd years ago. Um Michael Eisner running
12:13
around and being like, "My kids said we should do star tours. and then Frank Wall's going, "Oh my god, let me just
12:19
figure out how that's actually going to happen." Um, I think it's really exciting to have two people that are very disciplined and passionate
12:26
creatively that also have the financial and the prowess and the operational
12:34
um hat that they can put on like they can kind of wear both. Um, and I think that the reason the company is going to
12:42
be successful with the two of them is that they both can support the other
12:47
where needed. Agree. Um, I think it's also important to note that there's going to Right now
12:54
is the honeymoon period. Yes. I'm actually really looking forward to this. One of my favorite things with
12:59
Josh is is I've had the unique opportunity to be in the parks with him multiple times where guests have come up
13:05
and told them they that they don't like reservations or they don't like this or they don't like that.
13:10
And Josh, to his credit, will always stay and talk with the person and and listen to the person and hear them and
13:17
then also at the same time not back down. And I think that's an important thing to do as a leader. and and so he's
13:22
been able to I've seen it happen multiple times where he's like well this is the reasoning behind the reservations
13:28
and this is how Disney reservations usually um
13:34
and he's like this is this is the reason behind it and this is how it does benefit you even if you don't see it and
13:40
and I think this is the hard part with anybody the further up you get from people the
13:46
harder it is to understand the decisions that are made and and that's going to be
13:51
Something that'll be interesting for us as Disney fans is we kind of have this
13:56
we like Josh opinions on things and there's going to be times where things come that that
14:03
people are going to be like, "Oh, well, this isn't the Josh from before." And and yes, it is because Josh is going to
14:09
continue to be Josh. And and what we're going to see is Josh is going to have different information, different
14:14
responsibilities, different um priorities that may not
14:20
line up always with us that that are in the parks every, you know, month, week, whatever, how often you go. And it'll be
14:26
interesting to see how that as a community gets navigated and interact,
14:31
you know, like how all of that plays out because I think that's kind of the fun of this in some regards. Um because I
14:37
think one of the things we do forget is that we get to go to Disneyland. We get
14:42
to watch Inside Out or Pirates of the Caribbean or whatever it is because
14:49
people like Josh and Bob and Michael and Card and um Roy and Ron and
15:00
Walt, I guess. I don't know if I got them all, but uh because these people do make the hard decisions that keep the
15:06
business growing and if it's not growing, it's it's failing and that that
15:13
there's nothing worse than that could happen is is Disney to fail. So, I think we all want him to succeed. And uh we
15:18
would love to interview you, Josh. You can do it virtually. You can sit on the couch. You are more than welcome to come and be on Geek's Corner anytime you
15:25
want. He he did say yes to that. He did years ago. Yes. I I think I think we keep trying. So, let's Let's get Josh
15:32
on Geeks Corner and we will talk about favorite movies. We will talk about the Muppets. We will talk about all of the
15:38
fun stuff and people will get to know a little bit about Josh tomorrow. We can talk about your favorite pizza.
15:44
Yeah, you can even you can pitch us whatever you want to talk about. It'll be a blast. All right. It is We spent a
15:51
lot of time on that, but it's an exciting day. Are you surprised? No. All right. But now it's time to talk
15:56
about the important thing. Thanks, Daddy. Thank you, Mr. Dad, thanks, man.
16:02
It is time to talk about The Muppets. The Muppet Show arrives on Disney Plus at ABC tomorrow. In fact, less than it's
16:10
in like 3 hours, you could watch it on Disney Plus. So, odds are if you're not watching this live, you could be
16:16
watching The Muppets and then this or Yeah, you could watch the new The Muppet Show with Sabrina Carpenter and Seth
16:22
Rogan and Maya Rod Rudolph and Rudolph. Rudolph. What do you get when you combine Seth
16:28
Rogan and Maya Rudolph? Um, good. You never know. Anyway, we did get the
16:33
chance to see the Muppet Show. And uh, so we have watched it. You could have had the chance to see it if you've
16:39
watched it on D23 Gold Theater earlier tonight. And uh, I will tell you without
16:45
getting into any spoilers whatsoever, we're not going to talk about anything that's in the show. We're just going to talk about feelings
16:52
and vibes and and things like that. Um
16:57
because really it's one of those things with a show like this you need to watch
17:02
it and you need to have your own opinions and and we don't want to impact that. Um we will share our opinions
17:07
though and Katie with that in mind what were your opinions on the new the Muppet
17:13
Show. I absolutely loved it and I I loved it not in the
17:20
not not in the regard of we got Muppets therefore I like it. It was uh this
17:26
actually feels like the Muppets. It's structured like the Muppets. It sounds like the Muppets. Um everything about it
17:35
is going to give you it gave me I can't say it's going to give you. It gave me
17:40
the feeling of watching the original Muppet Show. And that is the highest compliment I think I could give. Um
17:47
because there's just this feeling you can't replicate without doing something
17:54
100% correctly. Mhm. And um I mean there's the old story with
17:59
uh the tiki room with Walt Disney where he was like, "Why are the birds breathing?" And it's like, "Well, cuz the guests can feel perfection." Um
18:06
yeah, they're not going to notice these minute details here or there, but you're going to feel it as the person consuming
18:13
it. And I think that's 100% true with this iteration of the Muppet Show. And I
18:19
hope there's like a thousand more to come. Honestly,
18:25
love it. Uh I loved it as well. I thought it was a blast. I thought they they nailed the vibe of the Muppet Show,
18:32
but also made it modern, so it wasn't just looking to the past. Um which I think would have been bad. I
18:38
think if they just tried to simply go back and be like, "We're doing the Muppet Show again." and
18:43
and there wasn't anything current that could be a problem. And cuz you think of it,
18:50
like the Muppet Show at its time was really kind of edgy and and they got edgy in this and I
18:56
thought that was really solid and I felt like they nailed the characters. They felt a lot more um
19:03
uh I mean I watched it than the show. Beautiful. And um but they nailed the characters. They nailed the vibe. the it
19:10
it left you wanting more, which is a win. And the real hope I have now is
19:16
people go back at 9:00 or midnight tonight and and start watching it over
19:22
and over, you know, just hit it on refresh or repeat or whatever it is and and get those play numbers up so we get
19:29
more. Um, and I am very pleasantly surprised. Like
19:35
I think the best thing that came out in recent years in recent being a stretch
19:40
was probably The Muppet Movie 2011. Like that that kind of was that
19:46
direction, but it wasn't the Muppet Show and it also wasn't truly a Muppet movie
19:52
cuz it it the center of the story were people instead of Muppets, you know,
19:59
like it was it was a little bit I don't know. I I think you could make some arguments about that. And um and
20:05
then you go back further then you've got, you know, Muppet Treasure Island and uh Muppet Christmas Carol, but you
20:13
think that's adds up to like one good thing a decade if we were to stretch it all out. And I think this has a chance
20:20
to be not just good but great. and they could, you know, even if they do the
20:26
Columbbo thing where it's a couple episodes a year, you know, instead of it being like a weekly series, like don't
20:33
kill yourself off. I would much rather know that, you know, we get one a
20:38
quarter or one a month and it's really good as opposed to and like with a really great guest, really
20:45
great music. Like go creativity and lean into good show, good story, good comedy, all of
20:52
that stuff versus um trying to rush it out and get too
20:57
many. And and um I'm hopeful like if people just keep watching it and and
21:03
hopefully everybody else thinks it's as good as we do. Um I see Bailey liked it and we liked it and uh other people I
21:10
know that that uh were able to review it ahead of time also seem to be very into it. And I don't think it's just because
21:17
it's new. Like I do think it is legitimately fun.
21:22
I'm so excited. Yeah. I just I it's kind of like how I felt after we watched Disneyland Handcrafted where I was like, "Oh my
21:28
gosh, I want to watch it like 15 more times." Um, in some ways this is better.
21:35
Yeah. Like Handcrafted might be more interesting, but this is way more entertaining.
21:40
Yeah. Yeah. It's also just It just feels so good to be back.
21:46
And hopefully we are back. Like this is the real trick and this is where I'm I'm
21:51
finding myself on this fence or whatever you want to call it is I thought it was great, you thought it
21:58
was great, other people think it's great. Will the general population want to see this? Or in like in a perfect
22:05
world, it introduces a whole new generation to the Muppets and they love it and we get more of, you know, beyond
22:11
just this. You know, maybe we get uh um you know, the the the always rumored
22:18
next version of Muppet Vision 3D. You know, we have a space for that still at Disney California Adventure and it's not
22:24
super busy. Every time I go by, I don't know. I I think there's
22:30
possibilities for it. And um don't you think so? Here's here's what I'm thinking and
22:36
hear me out. You can absolutely stop me. Um you know, they haven't broken ground
22:42
at the Hollywood backlot area. Mhm. So, I'm thinking
22:49
we do a Muppet vision aspect in that theater and then
22:58
in the Monsters building, we could do maybe a a ride about movies. Maybe it's
23:07
great. Um, and maybe the Muppets are providing commentary. you know, the
23:13
original plan for Disney MGM Studios and The Great Movie Ride. Um, and then, uh, if we're looking for
23:19
like an E ticket attraction, you know, do some expansion. Um, I heard that the Electric Mayhem are
23:26
putting on a concert and I think they need a super stretch limo to get us there pretty quickly. So,
23:36
um, there's also, you may remember, there was a fountain in the Hollywood backlot area. Originally, it was was
23:43
Mickey was very cute. It's not there anymore, but we could bring that fountain back.
23:48
Mhm. As Miss Piggy dressed as the Statue of Liberty. Mhm.
23:53
Yeah. Um, and I know, I hear you. But what are we going to do with the uh
24:00
refreshment backlot area and the and the cart? Easy. Um, have you ever heard of
24:07
Rizzo? Oh, I thought you were going to go Swedish chef. No. Rizzo. Rizzo the rat. Did you know
24:13
he makes pizza? Oh, yeah. I see where you're going. Pretty crazy. Um, it's the city's top
24:19
rated pizza or as some people have said, it's rat pizza. Um, which is one of my
24:26
favorite visual gags and I'm so sad it's gone from the parks. Or they could bring back my personal favorite thing.
24:34
You've got the dough. We've got the cheese. There you go. I'm sorry. I'm just really reminiscing
24:39
about how much I miss Muppet Courtyard. But I would like to see them actually move forward with new Muppet stuff and not just revisit the past because I
24:45
think that's been the problem is up until here, the Muppets have always just tried to
24:52
revisit the past and recreate the lightning in the bottle that once was without taking the risk of of
25:00
new, something new and edgy. And it's interesting because even in the interviews with Josh and Bob tonight, uh
25:06
they were talking about the importance of taking risk as a leader. And I I just think that's what the Muppets really
25:13
need is that um that risk like you have to take the risk and uh um I hope they
25:20
do and I hope we see more risky edgy Muppets in the future and uh and that will be a lot of fun. All right, final
25:28
thing for the night is looking to the past after we just looked to the future.
25:33
Disney California Adventure will be celebrating its 25th anniversary this coming weekend. that we say this as
25:39
we're looking at a map of opening day Disney's California Adventure over to my
25:44
right. But yeah, there it is. And um so
25:50
we're doing a series called 25 years at Disney California Adventure where I'm basically just going through and
25:56
spotlighting different things that have been in the park through the years.
26:02
Today, so today was Glowfest. Yesterday was California Screaming. Um, I have a
26:07
couple more planned out later this week that that'll be kind of fun. One of them being I think one of my favorite YouTube
26:14
videos that we've ever posted and um mainly just because through the years it
26:20
has gotten some of the most amusing comments and it just keeps going and going and I
26:26
would never have predicted it but and you're probably not going to predict it either. You'll have to stay tuned for that one.
26:31
Make sure to subscribe to dabsmagic.com. But we're gonna get new Mickey Mini costumes. We're getting the return of
26:37
Saurin over California. We're getting a fun uh novelty bucket because they're not popcorn buckets anymore. But as you
26:43
look back at 25 years of Disney California Adventure, what are some of
26:48
your favorite things through the years? One or two of them. Um super easy to start the California
26:56
letters. That California postcard entrance um I think was entirely
27:02
magical. Um, and also not to this is I
27:07
promise I'm not just saying this for this show because it's relevant. Um,
27:12
Disney California Adventure is what introduced me to the Muppets. Mhm. I think a lot of people
27:18
that is the first place I ever like obviously you you're born with awareness
27:23
of Kermit the Frog. Um, but like you have this awareness of these things, but
27:28
this was like the first real Muppet anything I saw as a kid. and it's solid. And Muppet Vision is so good, but I have
27:35
such vivid memories of that pre-show. Um, specifically Scooter, uh, going through
27:42
all the TVs. Um, yeah. Like, and I'm not I swear I'm not
27:48
just being like, it's cuz this is the Muppets episode. I've talked about this many a time. Um,
27:54
yeah, I think Muppet Vision 3D for sure. That's your thing, huh? Yeah. All right.
28:01
What's yours? The correct answer is Electronica. Oh, well, no. Uh, Muppet Vision's definitely up
28:06
there. Electronica is up there. Um, I think that was one of the most
28:12
fun. I guess it's an overlay that that Disney did there. Uh, Mad Tea Party was kind of
28:18
uh something that grew out of that. But Electronica had something special um that really brought people together and
28:26
it planted the seeds for what Mad Tea Party would become. And people still talk about it today. Like if you
28:31
experienced either of those, you you talk about it today. Like if you were playing in the Flynn's Arcade, like we
28:38
used to go every Sunday night and we'd play Flynn's Arcade and and compete in there and watch the the different
28:45
entertainment offerings. And then when Mad Tea Party came along, there was a similar thing going on with the band.
28:52
And um and so it really helped, I think, create a Disney community in in that
29:00
park. and probably was some of the first times that the bigger Disney community
29:08
was really into DCA because I think before that you had your DCA 1.0 lovers, you being one of them.
29:15
And then there was a few of us that are like, "Oh, I want to go do Muppet Vision every Sunday night for the last show of
29:21
the night because it's the best because it's empty." You know, there was there were certain elements of it and there
29:27
were small groups that were really into it. And then when you know I probably actually started with Glowfest in World
29:33
of Color, that's when it started becoming a place where people were connecting not just
29:39
with each other but also at the parks and um and that will be fun to see
29:45
as well. And um yeah, I I'm I think that's probably one of the things that
29:50
was fun. Uh Minnie's Fly Girls is always going to be up there as are the news boys. Always going to be up there.
29:56
Interesting. A lot of this is entertainment driven. um Minnie's Fly Girl. Mhm. And um and then like I think all of
30:04
Cars Land like that uh that was one of the most fantastic openings I think I've
30:10
ever been to was the opening night of of Cars Land. And uh well the other thing um we really have
30:18
to thank DCA 2.0 for a lot of what you see on camera in front of you today. Uh
30:25
because as you've heard a million times, DAPS was the only uh outlet I was
30:32
watching for DCA 2.0 coverage because you were at the media event. You had all these great videos. I was um I was super
30:40
sick that year. Um and so I literally had like just gotten I think an MRI and
30:46
I still I had like this crazy bruised hand. It was terrible. But I was watching the DAP's videos because I was
30:53
like, "Oh, this is quality. This is fun." Um, and I was trying to imagine
30:58
because in my head, the last time I had been to California Venture was what we called Wall Street USA. Um, you couldn't
31:05
like you were going over behind Saurin and entering the park. And so I couldn't
31:10
even fathom, wait, where's the Starbucks? Wait, where did they put Cars Land? like and I was watching these
31:17
videos and um I specifically remember the news boys video because I was so mind blown that like they came out on
31:24
this trolley and they were doing flip not flips but like they're dancing all types of things. Um and so yeah,
31:30
shout out to DCA 2.0. Thanks for the boyfriend. There you go.
31:36
All right, it is time now for
31:44
comments. comments. That is right. It is time for comments.
31:49
If you have something you'd like us to respond to, throw it in the comments. We'll stick around for a couple more minutes. I will scroll back up. I saw a
31:55
couple comments as we were going along that I will hit as much as I can. I'm going all the way to the top. So, we'll
32:01
see how that goes. Moving right along. Moving right along. Moving right along. Mikey was always hoping Josh would be
32:06
the next in line. I think very good choice. I think a lot of us did. Once you met him and you saw him working and
32:11
you saw how he interacted with the ca cast, you could see this was a good fit and um and he genuinely cares not just
32:19
about the cast, but he also cares about the people and and that's an important thing. Um
32:25
yes, I think two people working together is is a great way. It just I do think there always has to be a person that's
32:32
where the buck stops. Um and
32:38
uh hope studios like picture get some of their you know I think they will I think there's been a focus so the thing
32:45
looking at at this I can see where people are upset with um the state of
32:52
creativity in the Walt Disney company is growing again and I I think the real trick is is when
33:00
um they went through the era of not so fun during the pandemic and everything else the focus became became quantity,
33:08
not quality. And Disney's still recovering from that. So when Bob Iger came back, he had to
33:14
fix a lot of things and he had to keep the company the company. It's interesting to me that both Bob Iger and
33:19
Michael Eisner towards the end of their careers at Disney had to save the company from um from uh activist
33:28
shareholders or corporate writers and and and I think they both successfully did it. And I hope that in history
33:36
they're both given a lot more credit than they initially were because uh without Michael Eisner, the era of Bob
33:44
Iger doesn't happen. And I think the same is going to be said without Bob Iger. We don't have the era of of Josh
33:50
Demaro. And um you just glazed over one of those. Well, because it really wasn't an era.
33:56
It was like it was a blip. It's just really funny. And and honestly, that's
34:03
There's a lot of different whatifs that could be questioned with that. Um, you're going to love the Muppets
34:08
tomorrow or Muppet Show tomorrow. Can't wait for you to see that, Ethan. Um, I will say the other fun thing is that
34:13
Sabrina Carpenter is Sabrina Carpenter. Yes. Like, um, Mikey, I hope you let us know what you think about it as well. It does like
34:21
it hits the nostalgia, but it also keeps moving forward. I think that's great. U, we'll see the original Muppet Vision
34:27
will come back. I don't know. Like, it's possible. It's it's also I I also think
34:34
imagineers like to make new things and not necessarily revisit the past. And I
34:40
also wonder if we were to get a Muppet Vision somewhere else that was a cop carbon copy of the original one. I don't
34:48
know how well it would be received. On the flip side, the counter to my own argument,
34:54
Saurin over California. Yeah. So, anything is possible. And and I
34:59
think honestly if there's enough fan clamor for that it could happen. Uh
35:05
Muppets for whatever reason under Imagineering. I will talk more about Muppets and Josh tomorrow on uh Daps
35:11
After Dark on Daps HQ tonight. Um remind me about this. I gladly won't.
35:16
I I have more but I'm going to save it because it's more than two seconds. Um
35:22
we know you love DCA 2.0. Yes. So, are we in DCA 3.0 now? We're heading
35:30
into 3.0. Um, you've heard what I call it. 2.5. Is that what it is? Uh, 2.8.
35:35
2.8. Yeah. 2.8. Cuz I think we're uh I think Avengers Campus was 2.5. Okay.
35:40
Um, I say that we're in 2.8. I think 3.0 is when we get a park rename.
35:46
What if they don't rename it, but it's just a completely different park? That's the problem is we're doing Ship
35:51
of Thesius on Disney California Adventure Park. But I think we get a rename that officially begins the 3.0
35:58
era. Um if not, I think that um what would signal 3.0 would be the closing of
36:05
Grizzly Peak and Grizzly Airfield. To me, that would be so not not the So to me, I think the end
36:13
of Paradise Gardens if that becomes all Pixar or whatever it is back in the
36:18
corner. Really, not Grizzly Peak. Um, I don't know that they'll ever get rid of
36:24
Grizzly Peak. Mainly because it there's so many integrations with other parts of
36:30
the park from there. Okay. Um Um maybe the challenge trail. I can
36:36
definitely see that going. Um I would personally love to see like
36:41
country bears go there or um or another idea that I have. But um yeah, I don't
36:48
know. Like there there's lots of possibilities. Maybe we'll talk more about those on Daps After Dark tonight.
36:55
All right, Katie, we are running out of time. What should people do? Uh you should go to dapsmagic.com, check out all the Disney and positive stuff as
37:01
