A Father's Day Walk Down Memory Lane at Disneyland! ~ Photoniks ~ Episode 22
Jun 19, 2026
Happy Father’s Day! In this special episode of Photoniks, hosts Mr. Daps and Clocky are joined by a very special guest—Mr. Daps' own father, Chaz from Chaz Stories!
To celebrate, Chaz brings a treasure trove of vintage Disneyland photos dating back nearly 50 years to his honeymoon in June 1979. Together, the trio takes a nostalgic trip through time, analyzing how the park has transformed while marveling at the classic details that have stood the test of time.
Key Highlights From This Episode:
* The Origins of Chaz Stories: Chaz shares how he started his YouTube channel reading bedtime stories for his grandkids across the globe , growing it into a creative endeavor with roughly 650 videos.
* Disneyland Entrance & Crowds (1979): A look at the wide-open walkways, lush flower beds, and surprisingly light summer crowds of yesteryear.
* Pre-1983 Fantasyland: The team dissects a classic photo of Peter Pan's Flight and the old carousel placement , reminiscing on the massive layout changes made to Fantasyland in the early '80s.
* Main Street USA Magic: Spotting the Disneyland Band marching into Town Square , complete with vintage guest fashion (hello, bucket hats!) and the old Global Van Lines building.
* Tomorrowland's Lost Icons: Debating views from the beloved PeopleMover and Monorail , catching glimpses of the old Autopia , the Submarine Lagoon , and the classic America the Beautiful Circle-Vision 360 mural.

>> Welcome to Photonix. I'm Mr. Dapps.
0:37
>> And I'm Clocky.
0:39
>> And today we are joined for Father's
0:41
Day. Most appropriately, my father, Chaz
0:45
from Chaz Stories. Welcome, Chaz.
0:47
>> Thank you. Good to be here.
0:50
>> Interchangeably, also Dad for me, but
0:52
you know, you guys can call him whatever
0:54
you want.
0:55
>> [laughter]
0:55
>> Before we get into Chaz Stories, Clocky,
0:57
what should people do?
0:59
>> You should make sure to like and
1:00
subscribe anywhere you're listening to
1:01
or watching this podcast or video
1:04
podcast if you're watching on YouTube,
1:05
which you likely are cuz we have so many
1:07
fun photos today. And comment below what
1:11
you'd like to see next. This is a fun
1:12
episode. We'll be doing some more fun
1:14
episodes later this month or or we just
1:17
did a fun episode. Either way, it's a
1:19
fun way to uh episodes are fun. Explore
1:21
the park and and let us know what you'd
1:23
like us to explore uh in in the park and
1:26
in time.
1:27
>> That is correct. And before we get into
1:30
these stories, which all are
1:32
loosely Father's Day related because
1:34
they did come from my father. We thought
1:36
it would be fun to talk about dad's
1:38
endeavors in the form of Chaz Stories,
1:41
which you started a couple years ago.
1:43
And uh maybe very quickly share about
1:46
what it is and why you started doing it.
1:49
>> Yeah. It
1:51
So, yeah, I actually I could go more
1:54
uh as Grandpa Chaz on that because
1:57
>> Exactly.
1:57
>> That's I started for the for the
1:59
grandkids. What happened is
2:02
uh
2:03
you know, we have two sets of grandkids.
2:05
One's on the East Coast and I'm here I'm
2:07
in Southern California and the other
2:09
sets over in Japan. So, it's a little
2:12
tough for the grandpa to read uh
2:15
bedtime stories to my grandkids.
2:18
And when we came back from there it it
2:20
occurred to me uh you know, with
2:23
technology such I can just do it on
2:24
YouTube. So, I created uh Chaz Stories
2:28
with an idea with a way of
2:30
uh telling these reading reading my
2:32
grandkids uh bedtime stories. It started
2:35
with the first one was uh The Boxcar
2:37
Children, which was my favorite book as
2:39
a kid. So, I read that and uh
2:43
uh
2:44
one of my grandsons in uh
2:47
in Japan just got so hooked he could
2:51
when I came back there the next time I
2:52
came back there he actually could recite
2:56
from memory the entire first chapter
2:59
with my inflections and everything.
3:02
>> That's impressive.
3:03
>> wasn't a picture book. This is this is a
3:05
you know, uh
3:06
>> Yeah.
3:06
>> novel novelization type thing.
3:09
>> So, it's been a couple years you've been
3:10
doing this now if I'm
3:12
adding things up correctly. Do you know
3:15
how many Okay, how many stories have you
3:18
create or videos have you created to
3:20
date? Do you know?
3:21
>> I don't have the exact number, but it's
3:23
somewhere in the neighborhood of about
3:25
650.
3:26
>> That's it?
3:27
>> That's it.
3:28
>> [laughter]
3:29
>> Yes.
3:30
Yes.
3:30
>> Just a few. Uh where can people find
3:32
them?
3:33
>> Well, Chaz Stories what you do is go to
3:35
YouTube. Uh when you get to YouTube just
3:38
at Chaz Stories.
3:40
That simple. C H A Z S T O R I E S.
3:44
>> Perfect. And we'll have the links for
3:45
those in the show notes as well. You
3:47
won't want to miss them. Uh it's perfect
3:49
for turning on for kids or adults kids
3:51
at heart I guess you could say. Um and
3:53
just enjoying whether it's Boxcar
3:55
Children's, Cars, Moana, you name it. I
3:58
feel like you have a little bit of
4:00
everything in there. Mostly no. I I I
4:03
pretty much Disney.
4:04
>> limited to Disney and uh
4:06
>> There you go.
4:07
>> And then added uh a few new things with
4:09
the the wrinkles with the music and the
4:11
other things.
4:12
>> Yeah, it's it's become quite a creative
4:14
endeavor. Uh speaking of Disney and
4:16
creative endeavors, that is a perfect
4:18
segue into today's photos, which are all
4:23
courtesy of Chaz and they go back Should
4:28
I say how far back they go, Clocky?
4:30
>> Go back to whatever century that was.
4:32
>> So go back uh 50-ish years and uh we
4:36
will look first, if Clocky is ready, at
4:39
a photo of Chaz at Disneyland, I believe
4:43
in Well, you can tell us what year this
4:45
was and then we'll have fun analyzing
4:47
this photo.
4:48
>> Okay, that's
4:50
uh unless I'm mistaken, that's on our
4:52
honeymoon. Is I think that's on our
4:54
honeymoon. My wife and I went there for
4:56
our anniversary for our our honeymoon in
4:59
1979.
5:02
That was 47 years ago.
5:04
So 1979.
5:07
>> And in Clocky, what's the first thing
5:10
you notice about this picture as we look
5:12
at this uh
5:13
great look at the opening or the
5:15
entrance of Disneyland.
5:17
>> Just the amount of atten- the amount of
5:19
area for flowers.
5:21
>> Mhm.
5:21
>> Right? All of this section down here is
5:24
pretty incredible.
5:26
To think that now it's just it's just
5:28
walkway. We couldn't we not enough space
5:30
for this, but all the benches around it
5:32
ready to go.
5:33
>> Yes.
5:35
And how warm and and welcoming it all
5:37
looks cuz it's all open and and it just
5:39
feels like you can just stroll on in and
5:41
be welcomed at Disneyland. Like I think
5:43
that's a lot of fun. As we're looking at
5:44
this very quickly, I am curious, do you
5:47
see that uh
5:48
there's a big pull on the right side
5:51
with I'm assuming lights for at night
5:52
maybe.
5:55
>> Probably, cuz that would also be where
5:56
the uh kennel kennel land would be.
5:59
So, that would be at night a guest area
6:02
that would need to be more illuminated
6:03
than the box offices.
6:05
>> There you go. And I'm noticing from the
6:07
the shadows it must be uh I'm guessing
6:09
mid-morning. And if if I recall
6:12
Disneyland didn't always open up right
6:14
and early as it does today. Do you
6:16
remember what time you were getting
6:17
there, Chaz?
6:19
>> Uh I'm guessing because yeah, I would
6:22
guess it was mid-morning, probably
6:24
around
6:25
10.
6:27
That would be my guess, 9:30 or 10.
6:30
Uh
6:30
>> Do you have any remember like any
6:32
memories of like those first thoughts as
6:34
you're standing out there before you go
6:35
in?
6:38
>> Only because I'd been there like once or
6:41
twice before. I think I'd been there
6:42
twice before.
6:44
But this is our honeymoon, so I'd never
6:46
been there with my new wife.
6:48
So, uh this was this was a lot of fun
6:51
just to be able to enjoy the magic with
6:53
my girl.
6:55
>> Mhm.
6:55
>> Um
6:56
Uh I don't know whether she I guess she
6:59
had been there, but I can't remember
7:01
actually whether she'd been there before
7:02
or not.
7:03
>> I believe she had. I think uh her
7:05
grandmother could get her in as a kid.
7:07
>> Yeah, that's right. That's right. Yeah,
7:09
it's funny as I look that picture of the
7:12
father right next to me there.
7:14
>> Yeah.
7:15
>> Only get Boy, does that look like my
7:17
like Well, not now now it doesn't, but
7:19
if when I was higher, that looked a lot
7:21
like uh
7:22
uh
7:23
her dad holding
7:25
uh you when you were that age.
7:27
>> Yeah, that's that's definitely
7:29
stylistically it fits very well even
7:31
though it'd be a few years later.
7:32
>> Yeah.
7:33
>> Speaking of Mom, I think we can show a
7:35
picture of her next.
7:37
>> Oh.
7:38
>> In Fantasyland and how much that has
7:40
changed as we look over there where
7:42
there's not a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique,
7:44
but there is a castle walk-through.
7:49
You got anything that you notice about
7:51
this, Clocky?
7:53
>> Yes, it's interesting to see cuz I
7:54
always think about where the carousel
7:56
was and this would be a great
7:57
opportunity cuz you're in line for Peter
7:59
Pan here.
8:00
>> Yes, so the carousel is just to the
8:03
right. I didn't realize like it was
8:07
further back than I thought. I always
8:09
thought the carousel was pushed a little
8:10
bit more forward. Based Based on this
8:12
photo it's going to be a little more to
8:14
the
8:15
And were you thinking it'd be kind of
8:16
like right
8:17
>> I I thought it'd be
8:19
>> Really right on top of it, but I I you
8:20
know, maybe it wasn't as far back from
8:22
where it is.
8:23
Always this The best part about these
8:25
photos, especially pre-83, is the
8:27
changes at Fantasyland. So, you know,
8:29
this clock is still here. This All this
8:31
area is still here, but
8:33
the the change here is interesting.
8:36
And isn't it interesting that that like
8:37
this view really hasn't changed that
8:40
much other than there's a stand selling
8:42
stuff behind like directly behind Mom,
8:45
but uh
8:46
it is kind of weird to think after all
8:48
of the changes from '83 that
8:51
there's still quite a bit that's the
8:52
same. That surprises me. Uh Was this
8:55
your first ride of the day, Dad, or was
8:57
it
8:57
>> sure was.
9:00
I have no doubt I It had to be cuz Peter
9:03
Pan was one of my favorite memories of
9:04
favorite rides from the last time I'd
9:06
been there. So, going to the Peter Pan
9:09
ride would be kind of a magical way to
9:10
start. One of the things I notice is how
9:13
uh this is June the 16th.
9:16
>> Okay.
9:17
Well, there we go. Really nailed it
9:19
down, huh, Clocky?
9:20
>> [laughter]
9:20
>> Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, wait. No, June
9:22
the 16th was the day we got married.
9:24
This is around June the 20th.
9:26
>> Okay.
9:27
>> Maybe the 19th. And the reason I mention
9:29
that is we're in the summer season.
9:32
And holy cow, for 10 10:30 or so in the
9:37
summer season. It
9:39
compared to today,
9:41
the crowds are a little bit we're a
9:43
little less sand even though they're
9:44
still
9:46
full.
9:47
But
9:48
uh
9:50
it it feels more open just looking at
9:52
that.
9:53
>> Yeah, I I would agree especially in
9:55
Fantasyland.
9:56
>> we went from here right next door to
9:59
Mr. Toad's Wild Ride right next. I think
10:02
that we did.
10:03
>> That would track. Um
10:05
it's it's also going noted noting how
10:08
open that area is. Fantasyland is packed
10:12
in the morning like
10:13
well, most of the day now, but uh
10:17
that that's definitely a difference too.
10:18
Did you Did you find something clocky?
10:20
>> Yeah, you bet. Now that I have a date, I
10:22
have more information.
10:24
So, that would have been a weekday June
10:26
18th through the 20th were Monday
10:28
through Wednesday.
10:29
>> That makes sense cuz we got married on
10:31
Saturday the 16th.
10:32
>> And then the hours for the park each of
10:35
those days were 9:00 to midnight.
10:37
And then weather was between 74 and 81
10:41
and then the lows in the 50s like
10:43
mid-50s.
10:45
Does that sound right?
10:46
>> Sounds right. And speaking of what day
10:49
it was cuz I'm thinking of where we
10:51
spent the nights.
10:53
Um one
10:55
two it would have been the fourth day so
10:58
it would have been the 20th
10:59
that we were there.
11:00
>> There you go.
11:02
There you go. Wednesday the 20th.
11:04
Very cool.
11:05
It's not often that we can nail it down
11:07
that
11:08
>> [laughter]
11:08
>> precisely.
11:10
All right, let's see what's next.
11:11
>> All right.
11:15
This is classic.
11:17
Um I think we're also getting to see our
11:19
first garbage cans if I'm correct. Is
11:22
that down there by the planter there?
11:24
Yeah.
11:25
>> Could be a garbage can, could be a water
11:26
fountain though.
11:27
>> Oh, you're right especially with the
11:29
double heights or the two heights. I
11:30
have not seen a uh
11:32
Oh, maybe up there. Maybe.
11:36
We we like to count how many trash cans
11:38
we see on in pictures, uh Dad, and it's
11:42
just one of the things that somewhere
11:43
along the way we're like, "Oh, this is
11:45
fun." I think that's one up by the
11:47
monorail. I think that that probably is,
11:49
and I think these are water fountains.
11:50
So, it adult and a kid-size water
11:52
fountain. Mhm.
11:55
Uh anything else?
11:56
>> kennel there?
11:58
>> Yeah, probably. Uh no, strollers and
12:01
wheelchairs. Yeah.
12:03
>> How funny.
12:04
>> Same ones.
12:07
Isn't that funny how many things stay
12:08
the same?
12:10
>> Uh I don't know.
12:13
I bet they've updated it.
12:15
>> Yeah.
12:17
>> Yeah. And you've got an opening day
12:18
train coming in, it looks like, and uh
12:23
What else do you notice, Clocky?
12:25
>> Well, if I had my father-in-law here, we
12:28
could see all the different cars and
12:29
know that's what they were. [laughter]
12:31
Uh no, but we can still see the flowery
12:33
area. The the fencing's up, which is
12:36
which was at the time they they had
12:37
finished the fencing all around cuz
12:39
there was a chain-link fence that fence
12:40
at one point over here. So.
12:43
Hm.
12:45
>> Do you have any memories of this this
12:47
picture, Dad?
12:49
>> Uh well, one of the things that comes to
12:51
mind is just seeing the cars in the
12:53
parking lot because that's how we got
12:55
there.
12:56
You know, we parked in the parking lot
12:58
and took the little yellow I think it
13:00
was the yellow tram. I'm not positive.
13:02
There was a tram that took us to the
13:04
front.
13:06
And just hearing the narration in the
13:08
Disney voice saying, "Welcome to
13:10
Disneyland" was kind of magical and fun.
13:12
Uh just a lot of excitement with that.
13:16
And I This was again This This wasn't
13:19
the first ride we took,
13:21
um
13:22
I don't think.
13:23
So.
13:25
Uh
13:27
Nothing else particularly that comes to
13:30
mind other than the trees are smaller.
13:32
>> Yeah.
13:34
As is often the case.
13:35
>> Well, that's what I remember of a lot of
13:37
it when you see now is how um
13:41
you know, everything's 50 years
13:43
older than it was.
13:45
>> Yeah.
13:47
Cool.
13:48
All right. We'll move on to
13:51
Main Street USA with the Disneyland band
13:54
playing, the yellow car driving around,
13:57
bucket hats,
13:59
the old um with the Emporium and then
14:01
next to it to the old locker area, the
14:03
Global Van Lines.
14:05
And I will admit as we get further into
14:06
these, I don't remember if this is the
14:08
1976 trip or the 1979 trip. So, if if
14:12
they're misorganized or whatever, that's
14:14
cuz I cleaned them up a little bit.
14:18
But, I love that you can see the
14:20
conductor on the right. I love the
14:22
outfits going on with the guests. And
14:25
getting to look at the side of the
14:27
Emporium going into a the Global Van
14:31
Lines building, I think
14:33
that's such a phenomenal
14:36
story being told there or the the the
14:38
changes, I guess, you could see to make
14:40
it look more like Main Street and um
14:43
you know, it it now it just continues on
14:45
with kind of the Emporium thing and it's
14:46
it's more uh
14:49
it it sticks together better, but I like
14:52
I like the diversity happening there.
14:59
>> Do you remember this?
15:00
>> The Global Van Lines, isn't that where
15:02
the fire station is now?
15:04
>> Um fire station would be to the left of
15:06
that, I think.
15:07
So, that's where that's where the
15:09
trolley goes out is just to the left of
15:11
that and then the fire station be a
15:13
little bit like across that little uh
15:16
track there that you can see kind of
15:18
>> lot up there? I wonder what the second
15:19
floor is.
15:21
>> Yeah. Uh do you remember Was this 79 or
15:24
76, Dad?
15:26
>> I'm still thinking this might have been
15:28
79.
15:29
>> Okay. Okay.
15:31
Um I don't see any garbage cans. Do you
15:35
see anything that's popping out at you?
15:36
>> There should be, but I got I don't see
15:38
that either.
15:41
No, but it's interesting to think about
15:42
how much this this frontage has changed
15:45
over the years. Where you think Main
15:47
Street hasn't changed that much. There
15:49
are some things that have.
15:52
>> I'm also going to make a guess right
15:54
here.
15:55
This to me looks like it was probably
15:58
during their their
16:00
band concert in the park, whatever they
16:02
called it, that was in town square. Cuz
16:05
if you look, the band is turning left to
16:07
go into the center of town square. So,
16:09
I'm betting it's right before their
16:11
concert.
16:13
>> Okay, are they are they going
16:16
>> Uh it looks like they're going towards
16:17
the center, if you look. Cuz the
16:19
conductor's on the right, so he'd be up
16:21
on the steps that walk over to the the
16:25
um flagpole.
16:27
And then I you can
16:28
>> around then, cuz I I thought it was the
16:30
other direction. I thought they're
16:31
facing the they're about to walk down
16:34
Main Street.
16:35
>> They could be doing that, too. I The
16:37
only reason I don't think it, though, is
16:38
look at the clarinet player in the back
16:40
who's facing us, and everybody else is
16:43
facing to the right.
16:45
>> Right.
16:45
>> And the drum player, too. So, my bet is
16:47
they just marched down Main Street USA,
16:51
and they're they're turning into the uh
16:53
>> Oh. Oh, yeah. I see it. I see it. Okay,
16:56
yeah. I got you.
16:58
Yep.
16:58
>> But uh
17:00
fun day of when they used to have those
17:02
those concerts in the park or in the
17:04
town square.
17:05
>> You know what
17:05
>> that was a highlight.
17:06
>> what confused me is there's no trees,
17:09
you know, blocking you.
17:12
>> Uh-huh.
17:14
It is much easier to see things.
17:15
Although, you still have the jungle
17:17
behind uh Main Street, which is is fun
17:19
to see.
17:20
>> Yeah.
17:21
>> Yeah, I just looked at the what it looks
17:22
like today. And so, this building is
17:24
still there, and then the rest of this
17:26
is all new.
17:27
>> Yeah, that's that's
17:28
>> the that's the cut-off.
17:30
And they've made the rest of that look a
17:32
lot like what's there on the right.
17:34
>> So, this picture is facing what
17:37
direction?
17:38
>> North-ish.
17:41
Like, you're you're facing See where it
17:43
says Disneyland on the
17:45
the sign up there? Yeah, that's the the
17:48
Emporium as you're walking into the
17:49
park.
17:51
On the left side of of
17:53
of Town Square. You're kind of by City
17:55
Hall. Like, we're across the street from
17:57
City Hall probably right now.
17:59
>> Okay.
18:00
Got you.
18:01
>> Yeah.
18:01
>> Good picture.
18:04
>> This would be a fun one to do a photo in
18:05
photo. Because you have enough of the
18:08
Emporium and enough of this has changed.
18:10
>> Yeah, and you know what? The shadows
18:12
tell you what I'm looking at the
18:14
shadows. Shadows tell you where the sun
18:15
is in the morning.
18:17
>> Yeah.
18:18
>> [sighs]
18:19
>> All right.
18:20
Next, we have a classic.
18:23
So good. The photo I I buy more than
18:26
often than not, not realizing I already
18:28
have it.
18:30
This was also the photo that almost got
18:32
cut about a dozen times, but I was like,
18:34
I love how much you can see of the track
18:37
of Alice in Wonderland. Like, we I don't
18:40
know that we've seen it that open. Maybe
18:43
we have, and I'm I'm spacing it, but I
18:46
just love You can see basically all of
18:48
the exterior track for Alice in
18:50
Wonderland. I just thought it was a
18:51
unique perspective. You can also see
18:53
Dumbo over here in the corner.
18:55
>> Good eye.
18:56
>> And then and then also where this has
18:58
moved, the the mushroom has moved
19:01
quite a bit
19:02
since it's now closer to here. It's the
19:04
same mushroom.
19:07
>> Yeah.
19:08
I'm sure there's garbage cans in there
19:09
somewhere.
19:12
>> What the right right here probably? Cuz
19:13
this is all the food there. one right
19:15
here for sure.
19:16
>> The other thing I I'd like to note
19:18
clocky from a previous episode a month
19:20
or two ago.
19:22
Look where that lighthouse is in the
19:24
upper right corner of the
19:27
cuz we were remember we were discussing
19:29
where that was compared to
19:31
cuz that's Gold Rock.
19:33
>> Yeah, Monstro's here somewhere.
19:36
>> So yeah, that I'm
19:38
>> That's what we have to track how many
19:39
times they move that.
19:41
Unless it was just an 83 change.
19:44
>> Maybe.
19:46
Comments if you know. Uh anything
19:48
jumping out at you, Dad?
19:50
>> Well, probably the most obvious is the
19:52
skyways there.
19:54
>> Yeah.
19:56
>> Yeah. Yeah.
19:58
And uh
20:00
I guess
20:02
we must have already gone through the
20:03
Matterhorn.
20:06
And uh there is something I saw somebody
20:09
put up posted on Facebook not long ago.
20:13
Uh a picture of the
20:16
well, for for me I guess it'd probably
20:18
be the exit going on you know the far
20:20
end the the station for the highway and
20:24
they showed uh a picture of it you know,
20:27
today or whatever and they said you have
20:29
to be a real old-timer to know what this
20:31
is and I thought well, I know right away
20:34
recognize it.
20:36
>> Classic.
20:37
>> Can you even get to it anymore?
20:39
>> You can see where it it was but you
20:41
can't get to it.
20:42
>> I didn't think so.
20:44
>> I do wonder and maybe
20:47
do you remember which direction which
20:49
side was going?
20:51
Cuz I'm feeling like maybe you're about
20:54
to go into the Matterhorn.
20:56
>> That might
20:57
>> Cuz I have a very faint memory of it of
20:59
it going
21:01
would that be counterclockwise?
21:05
>> Uh okay, that's that's I don't remember.
21:07
I don't know.
21:08
>> That's something for the comments, too,
21:10
cuz I I don't remember well enough and
21:12
this this could just be something that
21:14
was implanted in my brain at some point,
21:16
but uh
21:17
uh that's fun to see. It's also fun to
21:19
see the uh castle up in the corner, too,
21:22
or up in the middle.
21:25
That's a fun fit photo.
21:26
>> Oh, the the the castle in uh Storybook
21:29
Land.
21:30
>> Yeah.
21:32
>> Yeah.
21:33
>> Yeah, it really provides perspective on
21:34
things of of where they are and where
21:36
they've moved to.
21:37
>> Those umbrellas that is that all a food
21:39
eating area right there where you're in
21:41
Yeah, right there.
21:41
>> Yeah, so this was called Character Foods
21:43
back in the day.
21:44
And so this was just a general hamburger
21:46
or hot dog stand.
21:49
>> And then and then there's the carousel
21:51
in the background.
21:54
Right behind it, right?
21:55
>> No, no, no, that that is that's the
21:57
restaurant. That's the actual restaurant
21:59
cuz carousel would be over this way.
22:00
Yeah.
22:03
Yeah, that the carousel would be to the
22:05
left of the picture where we can't
22:07
currently see.
22:09
Yeah, character foods though. Character
22:10
food stands.
22:14
Huh, cool.
22:15
>> Okay.
22:16
>> Yeah, hamburgers, hot dogs, and
22:17
beverages.
22:19
>> Of course.
22:20
>> Yeah,
22:20
>> [laughter]
22:20
>> what else do you what else do you need?
22:22
>> Could you zoom in one thing I I hate to
22:25
take the time but if you go to the other
22:28
corner, the top left corner.
22:31
Over there, the very corner with that
22:34
rock area there.
22:36
Go higher.
22:37
>> That that's as high as I go.
22:38
>> up. Oh.
22:40
>> That would have been uh
22:42
heading on over into the back of
22:44
Frontierland, right?
22:45
>> That's what I'm thinking.
22:47
I'm wondering if that may be the
22:50
backside
22:51
of uh what's now Thunder Mountain, but
22:54
back then it was the old mine train
22:56
ride.
22:57
>> That would track.
23:00
I just would be fun to look for more of
23:02
two clocky.
23:03
>> Yeah, it's it's hard again, it's things
23:05
that people didn't take photos of and
23:07
that is, you know, a back wall. Whereas
23:09
now I'm like, take a photo of that back
23:11
wall. So we have it for later.
23:12
>> know what we're going to need. Never
23:14
know.
23:14
>> Yeah, exactly.
23:15
>> [laughter]
23:16
>> You also look through
23:17
look through some Dumbo photos to see if
23:18
we have anything that that goes that
23:20
direction.
23:22
>> Yeah. All right.
23:24
>> Yeah, that I was just looking down here.
23:26
This should be a photo spot, I think.
23:30
Or there was a mailbox over here as
23:32
well, but
23:33
>> Okay.
23:33
>> Hard to see in that corner.
23:36
>> Cool.
23:36
>> All right.
23:41
>> This was another one that we've had
23:42
similar photos of through the years or
23:45
year year and a half whatever it's been.
23:47
>> Yeah.
23:48
>> Uh but I also would just like you don't
23:50
get this great of a view super often and
23:53
I liked how it showed where the the
23:55
carousel is.
23:57
>> So this is definitely the the 79.
24:00
Since we have the
24:01
Space Mountain in the back.
24:06
>> I love how much bigger the castle looks
24:08
with smaller trees.
24:10
>> [laughter]
24:13
>> What do you notice, clocky?
24:15
>> Oh, the old the old facades. I mean, the
24:17
entrances here are always amazing to
24:19
see.
24:22
And then
24:23
>> It's funny because it it almost throws
24:25
you into thinking like, oh, I'm looking
24:27
at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
24:30
Other than the castle, obviously.
24:31
>> Right.
24:31
>> But it
24:33
their facades really are much more
24:34
similar to this.
24:38
>> Is that the same top on the
24:40
carousel?
24:44
>> I'm pretty sure it's new.
24:47
>> I think it's it's different than the one
24:49
we have today.
24:51
>> And then that would be what to the left
24:54
behind the carousel is what?
24:56
>> That's Peter Pan. Should be Peter Pan,
24:58
right? Yeah.
24:59
>> Yeah.
25:01
Okay. All right.
25:03
>> Especially with the green.
25:06
>> Yeah.
25:11
Yeah, okay. And then that's the castle
25:12
going all the way behind that. That's
25:14
it. And then there's Space Mountain.
25:18
So, that was
25:19
>> remember if you went on
25:20
>> brand new.
25:21
>> Yeah, they
25:23
Did you go on it that trip?
25:25
>> I'm sure we did if we if we
25:27
uh
25:28
if we were if it was brand new, I'm sure
25:30
we Oh, you know what?
25:32
>> I mean, it wouldn't have been new from
25:33
the trip you went before.
25:36
>> Yeah, I don't know.
25:38
I don't
25:39
I don't remember whether that it doesn't
25:41
stick out to me.
25:43
>> Okay.
25:44
Okay.
25:44
>> If we did
25:47
My memory of the first time I took it is
25:49
it was faster than any
25:51
uh of the roller coasters I'd ever been
25:54
on.
25:55
>> That totally tracks. So, if this is the
25:57
same trip, we can go back to this.
25:59
This would be Big Thunder Mountain then.
26:03
Cuz '79 would have been that would have
26:05
been Mhm.
26:08
>> So, my memory of a mine train goes back
26:11
to when I was a kid cuz I do remember
26:13
the mine train.
26:15
>> Or it would have been the '76 trip. It
26:17
would have still been there.
26:19
>> Well, and it's it's possible that these
26:20
were two different flights over
26:22
Fantasyland. I just
26:24
>> gravitated towards them and you know,
26:25
that sometimes works in our favor or
26:27
not.
26:28
All right, let's look at that next one.
26:29
I'm excited now since you previewed it.
26:31
From the treehouse.
26:34
>> Yes.
26:37
>> I love this shot. I like the fact that
26:39
you can see Cascade Peak.
26:41
>> Mhm.
26:42
>> Just over the trees.
26:44
>> That and the fact that the rigging and
26:46
the sails were on the Columbia were the
26:47
main reasons I was like, this one has to
26:49
stay in.
26:51
Um
26:52
just because it's it's such a different
26:54
view than
26:55
or
26:57
elements than you would see today. And
26:59
as I'm looking at this now, too, it's
27:01
much more dense the the trees are than
27:04
today cuz you can basically see Rivers
27:06
of America pretty easily from here now.
27:09
>> Yeah.
27:13
>> Do you remember which trip this one was,
27:15
Dad?
27:16
>> Oh, I'm I I would guess this was our
27:19
honeymoon still.
27:20
>> Okay.
27:22
>> Yeah. Um because I think I remember a
27:25
picture
27:27
uh
27:28
my wife taking a picture of me.
27:30
I might have even sent that to you. It's
27:32
It's almost a silhouette picture of me
27:34
up there
27:35
right where I'm taking a picture.
27:37
I think there's another picture she took
27:39
of me
27:40
uh
27:41
uh in the in the background or with this
27:43
in the back.
27:45
>> That makes sense. That's fun.
27:47
And it's probably uh Columbia's probably
27:49
at the
27:50
>> dock, huh?
27:53
>> Yeah, looking looking at the map and
27:54
where we are
27:56
probably docked or just having left.
27:58
Okay.
27:58
>> I'm sorry. Has the dock ever moved?
28:03
>> I don't think so.
28:04
>> No?
28:05
>> I'm I'm pretty sure it's stayed. If If
28:07
If If anything it it's been rebuilt but
28:09
it hasn't shifted anything.
28:12
>> Okay.
28:13
>> Yeah.
28:16
Yeah.
28:16
>> Yeah.
28:17
Well, I'm just thinking from where I'm
28:19
at
28:20
and if I'm looking over there to
28:22
I'm thinking of where Golden Horseshoe
28:24
is.
28:25
>> Yeah.
28:26
It'd be It'd be to the right of this
28:28
picture and yeah, up there.
28:29
>> Yeah.
28:30
>> Yeah. Yeah.
28:32
And this is
28:34
I'm trying to think of what this was. I
28:37
mean, there there's a lot of building
28:38
there.
28:39
What was that?
28:42
>> Do you know what it was in that year,
28:43
Rocky?
28:44
>> So, this is the uh
28:46
And And if we get for this, fantastic.
28:48
The Oscar Mayer Riverbelle Terrace.
28:53
And then it would go right to the stage
28:55
door
28:56
to the camera shop that we talked about.
28:59
>> Yeah.
28:59
>> and then right next to that is Golden
29:00
Horseshoe. So this is this is And this
29:03
is mostly the same. This is still
29:04
Riverbelle Terrace.
29:07
>> Yeah.
29:10
What is that
29:11
jumble or can you tell down to the left?
29:13
Is that part of the Is that part of the
29:15
treehouse? Lower left?
29:17
>> the yellow are umbrellas.
29:19
And then the in the front I think are
29:21
leaves.
29:21
>> They are leaves, yeah.
29:25
>> What's the uh
29:27
>> [laughter]
29:28
>> What's the white down there?
29:31
>> Uh that is probably the fencing.
29:34
>> No, I mean look right there, right
29:35
there.
29:36
>> Right there, yeah.
29:38
>> Oh yeah, is that a planter?
29:40
>> It could be a planter, too.
29:44
Yeah.
29:45
>> Okay, I'm sorry.
29:45
>> That's That's That's an interesting
29:47
picture.
29:48
>> Okay, let's look at the next one.
29:49
>> Yeah, all right.
29:53
Because we didn't have enough of uh the
29:56
skyway yet.
29:58
But we I don't think we've had a good
30:01
view where you can see so many different
30:03
attractions in one picture from the
30:05
skyway in Tomorrowland.
30:07
And and that was part of the reason I
30:09
grabbed it cuz you got Autopia, you've
30:10
got the uh the PeopleMover, obviously
30:13
the track for the
30:14
>> Also, this may not be the skyway. We may
30:16
be on the PeopleMover or the monorail.
30:19
Cuz we're above it, aren't we?
30:20
>> Yeah.
30:22
Actually, that would track because
30:23
there's another picture from the
30:25
monorail
30:27
that uh I don't know if it made it or
30:29
not, but
30:30
um
30:32
I think that's very possible.
30:34
And looking at the the little lens flare
30:37
thing in the left, it makes me think
30:39
that maybe that's a actually a
30:41
reflection in the light.
30:42
>> Through the window, yeah.
30:43
>> Yeah.
30:50
>> Yeah, I can't be I can't see how I could
30:52
be above the cords.
30:53
>> Yeah.
30:57
>> That's That's what I When I see photos
31:00
>> When I see photos like that where I go,
31:01
I don't think I could get there. So,
31:03
this must be a professional shot or
31:06
How did they do this?
31:07
But they Yeah, this would be on the
31:09
monorail.
31:12
>> Uh the people mover.
31:14
>> Yeah, people mover.
31:15
>> or would it be people mover?
31:17
>> I think monorail. I don't think the
31:18
people mover went this high.
31:22
I don't know. We'll have to
31:23
Is monorail back up and running?
31:25
Take a Take a trip on Tuesday. See how
31:28
far How high we get.
31:29
>> [laughter]
31:30
>> Well, the other thing is would it show I
31:32
guess they probably don't show it that
31:33
detailed on the maps, do they?
31:35
>> No.
31:39
>> Okay. Well, there's your mystery
31:40
question.
31:42
>> It's also interesting how many
31:44
once again, just the trees aren't as
31:46
full here, so you can see through this
31:48
part of Tomorrowland a whole lot easier.
31:50
Cuz the palm trees would be right in the
31:52
way,
31:54
I think currently.
31:57
>> Okay. This is
32:01
This is really close.
32:05
This is This is really close to the
32:08
Tomorrowland
32:10
station for the Skyway, isn't it?
32:14
>> Mhm.
32:15
>> Yeah, the you're on You're on top of it.
32:18
>> Yeah. I'd have to I'd have to really
32:20
That's what's confusing me. I'd have to
32:21
really look
32:24
being there where everything intersects.
32:26
Cuz there's a lot of sections that like
32:28
the monorail would go over the people
32:29
mover, people would go next to the
32:31
monorail. I don't think the people mover
32:33
ever went over the
32:35
um monorail or the skyway buckets.
32:39
>> Wait, are you in the I think
32:41
this might be from the far right corner
32:44
of the Innovations building.
32:47
>> Innovations wasn't there.
32:49
>> But no, there was a building there.
32:51
>> Yeah, you would have you would have gone
32:52
on America Sings.
32:54
>> I think this is the top corner of that
32:57
building,
32:58
which it was basically right up cuz it
33:01
turned a little bit that last, didn't
33:03
it?
33:04
The
33:05
>> It It does Yeah, it's a This is a hard
33:07
one. I with the reflection I really
33:09
think this is monorail.
33:12
>> I just can't picture the path for that
33:14
there, but maybe. Yeah, we're going to
33:16
look.
33:18
>> All right.
33:19
I don't see any
33:21
I don't see any hands, although I'm sure
33:23
there's one here somewhere.
33:25
What? But Autopia being here, too, is
33:27
fun.
33:28
>> Yeah.
33:29
What What were you going to ask?
33:32
>> Oh, it just It looks like they're lined
33:34
up I see the three people at the bottom.
33:36
Yeah, to the to the left.
33:38
Is there something going on there? Is
33:40
there
33:41
>> I can't tell. At first I thought it was
33:44
a picture being taken.
33:45
>> just walking along, I guess.
33:46
>> Yeah. Cool. Pedestrians.
33:49
All right.
33:55
This one I thought was fun, even though
33:57
you can see the rail from the monorail
33:59
in the middle of it. I was like, I love
34:00
that you get to see another monorail
34:02
going by and the submarine which
34:05
>> and the lagoon to some extent. And
34:08
people mover in the background, now that
34:10
I'm looking closer.
34:11
Wait, no, there you go. This is good.
34:13
So, this is where that other photo would
34:15
This is where that other photo would
34:16
have been taken.
34:17
>> Yes. [laughter]
34:18
>> So, so
34:20
we're on the people mover here and that
34:22
is a people mover there.
34:24
>> So, I guess that's
34:25
>> is a people mover? That's not the window
34:26
from the monorail with the the rail?
34:28
>> I think so. It's hard to tell, but
34:30
>> Okay.
34:33
So, yeah, so that was where we did pop
34:35
out pretty high up there.
34:35
>> pop out pretty top pretty pretty high up
34:38
there.
34:39
One more reason we miss the PeopleMover.
34:41
>> Oh, I would do too.
34:43
I always have.
34:47
Never replaced that one for me.
34:49
>> No, that was a fantastic. It It Look at
34:51
how packed the monorail is, too.
34:55
>> Yeah.
34:56
>> That's funny.
34:59
Yeah, cool.
34:59
>> It was very That was
35:02
Keep in mind that was when Tomorrowland
35:04
were really was a
35:06
Tomorrowland still. We still It still
35:08
felt very futuristic back then.
35:09
>> Mhm.
35:10
>> Um
35:13
>> And I would contend that if you were to
35:14
put more things that felt a little bit
35:16
out of the ordinary that could be
35:19
futuristic, it would do the trick still.
35:21
Like a PeopleMover.
35:23
Just just to build on, you know, the
35:24
monorail still does kind of feel
35:26
futuristic
35:28
um even though there are monorails
35:29
around the world everywhere.
35:31
Or in many places, I should say.
35:32
>> Yeah.
35:33
Cool.
35:35
All right.
35:40
And I had to throw this one in cuz we we
35:43
had a recent episode where we had a
35:45
landscape picture of this, but I don't
35:47
think it had the Matterhorn in it also,
35:49
and I loved the
35:51
perspective that that provided. And it
35:53
was mountain over mountain. I don't
35:54
know. It It caught my attention of the
35:57
dozens that you sent.
36:00
>> Also, the photo that we saw the last in
36:03
a previous episode of the mural was the
36:05
other mural. So it was the Star Tours
36:07
building.
36:08
>> You're right.
36:08
>> This is yeah. This is the um
36:11
uh
36:12
>> America the Beautiful.
36:13
>> Yeah, America the Beautiful's
36:14
Circle-Vision.
36:19
But yeah, the Mary Blair
36:20
>> to this day still my favorite.
36:23
>> The Circle-Vision or the mural?
36:25
>> Of the Circle-Vision shows they've had
36:28
uh that that America the Beautiful
36:32
and again there was one that my memory
36:34
goes back to seeing that with my mom and
36:36
dad when I was a kid. And um
36:40
uh
36:41
one of the few columns that I wrote for
36:43
Daps uh I still remember um reflecting
36:48
on how
36:50
um
36:51
how absolutely new and unique Disneyland
36:54
was at that time
36:56
that
36:57
the it's really hard to put that in
37:00
context because um there was nothing. I
37:05
mean there was nothing that could
37:07
compare to it. As compared to today, you
37:09
know, there's a lot of different
37:10
versions, but
37:12
uh I think the closest that you might
37:14
come to was when uh uh Shatner shot up
37:19
into the sky on the rocket. You know,
37:22
when he and he talked about how it just
37:24
blew his mind and just he had it was an
37:26
experience like nothing else. I was
37:27
thinking that's kind of the way I think
37:30
it was for us going to Disneyland then
37:32
because there was
37:33
it was a it was an experience that just
37:35
could not be even remotely replicated.
37:39
>> You were you really were leaving the uh
37:42
living or living the leaving the world
37:45
of today
37:46
when you went there.
37:47
>> Yeah, that's I remember taking that
37:49
picture. In fact, I sent that picture to
37:50
you. I I uh I remember taking that
37:54
picture on I think probably every trip
37:57
I've been there because the first trip
37:59
when I went as a kid um and I saw that
38:04
it sounded fun, but after being there
38:06
the whole day and then remembering it uh
38:10
it sticks with even more.
38:12
>> That's cool.
38:14
Was that our last picture, Clocky?
38:16
>> I think so.
38:18
So, this is the fun part. You want to
38:19
share what we do now?
38:21
>> Yeah, this is the easy part. Pick your
38:23
favorite photo from these photos.
38:28
>> Go back
38:28
>> through them real quick, right? Yeah.
38:30
>> [laughter]
38:31
>> We'll It's It's been 10 photos. We'll go
38:32
from the beginning.
38:34
>> Okay.
38:35
>> So, there you go.
38:36
>> Chaz, you get to go first. Which one was
38:38
your favorite?
38:39
>> [snorts]
38:39
>> The second one.
38:41
>> Of course.
38:42
>> [laughter]
38:44
>> Good choice.
38:45
>> I'm also a big fan of that clock. I miss
38:47
it working.
38:49
>> There's come pluses is I mean, that's my
38:52
you know,
38:53
we're we've been married 4 days.
38:55
>> Mhm.
38:56
>> And uh
38:58
she's such an adorable and she still is.
39:01
That's the amazing thing is she still is
39:03
just adorable.
39:06
And uh that was my favorite of all the
39:08
years, that was my favorite uh way she
39:11
had her hair cuz her hair, the way it's
39:13
it's kind of curly and and all that kind
39:15
of stuff coming down the side, that was
39:17
left over from getting all did it up for
39:20
the wedding.
39:21
>> There you go.
39:22
>> So,
39:25
>> Clocky, what's your favorite?
39:27
>> Ooh, it's a hard one like usual. Let's
39:29
see.
39:36
You know, I'm going to laugh at that
39:37
picture every time now.
39:38
>> [laughter]
39:39
>> I'm going to go
39:40
Yeah. I'm going to go with this one.
39:43
>> Okay.
39:43
>> Just because
39:46
the the composition of it
39:48
the the this would be a postcard.
39:51
Yeah.
39:52
Easily.
39:53
>> Yeah.
39:53
>> You know, the mighty Matterhorn or
39:55
anything you want to put up above and
39:57
then just with everything there,
39:59
this this lines up with a look at you
40:02
can
40:03
other than you'd probably want to see
40:05
the monorail go through, but seeing the
40:08
people mover, seeing the cars, this is
40:11
I've got a postcard like this before.
40:12
>> ground level, yeah.
40:14
>> Yeah.
40:15
>> I I like that one, too. Um I'm going to
40:17
go with the I think the one with the
40:19
Disneyland band.
40:21
Partially because of the Disneyland
40:23
band, but also I really like getting to
40:25
see the different perspective of Main
40:27
Street from a different era.
40:28
And uh just how interesting that is. And
40:31
like
40:32
in some ways you almost notice that
40:34
building more than you notice the
40:35
Emporium when you come in cuz it kind of
40:37
pops out. Maybe that's just cuz I'm used
40:39
to what I'm used to, but uh I love that.
40:42
I love the guy in the bucket hat with
40:45
the the shirt that's What is that? Polka
40:46
dots or whatever? Like I just think it's
40:48
a fun photo. Um that definitely
40:51
catches a different era. And that might
40:52
even be a stage manager in the far side
40:55
in front of the yellow cart who blocking
40:57
traffic. I don't know. But um
41:01
it is funny how by this era you're
41:04
really not seeing any suits and boat or
41:06
and ties and and dresses and handbags
41:09
like we were in in older eras, but
41:13
but that's fun.
41:15
>> Well, thank you, Chaz, for sharing all
41:16
of the photos for this Father's Day
41:18
edition of uh
41:21
photonicking
41:23
with you. Clocky, what should people do?
41:26
>> You should again hit like, hit
41:28
subscribe. Uh five-star ratings are
41:30
always great as well. This is a This is
41:33
still although we've almost been doing
41:34
it a year a newer podcast and a newer
41:36
show and uh get in front of people. Tell
41:39
a Tell a friend about it. Someone who
41:40
likes to look You can yout us and still
41:43
look at photos of Disneyland. It's It's
41:45
It's a win-win situation. I don't want
41:46
Yeah, you got to hear what we're going
41:48
to say. But if you don't you can still
41:49
look at some amazing photos of
41:50
Disneyland and uh of Disneyland's past.
41:54
>> I think so. I think the only thing I
41:55
would do is play like a Disneyland
41:58
record or music as you're listening to
42:00
us to give the extra vibe of what's
42:02
going on and that would just add so much
42:04
to the experience, I think. But thank
42:06
you for photonicking with us today.
42:09
Happy Father's Day. Happy Father's Day,
42:10
Dad friend. Thanks for being on with us.
42:13
We look forward to doing this again with
42:14
you very soon. But, make it a great
42:16
week, everybody. Keep kind and we'll see
42:18
you in the parks.
