Disney Crosses $5 Billion at the Global Box Office

The Walt Disney Company has crossed the $5 billion mark at the global box office. This makes it the only studio to do so this year, and it is expected to remain that way. This comes after the House of Mouse surpassed $2 billion domestically. As of today, the global estimate for Disney is $5.06 billion globally. $3.006 billion of this came from the international box office and $2.054 billion from the North American box office.

The passing of this milestone by Disney marks the first time the company, or any company, has done this since 2019. This isn’t completely unknown territory for Disney, however. Since 2010, the company has now surpassed $5 billion at the global box office six times.

Disney has had several hits this year. Inside Out 2 is the top animated film of all time and also the most successful at the box office in 2024. It currently has earned $1.699 billion at the global box office. Deadpool & Wolverine has also been a hit and has brought in $1.388 billion. It also is the most successful R-rated film globally of all time. Moana 2 is also showing strength at the box office and has currently earned $719 million.

Other releases from Disney this year have also seen success. This includes Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and its $398 million global haul. Alien: Romulus also brought in $351 million globally. This weekend, Mufasas: The Lion King arrived in theaters at numbers that were less than expected. However, it is possible that word of mouth could see these numbers go up during the holidays.

Irregardless of how Mufasa does at the box office, Disney has had a milestone year at the box office. This is a welcome return to form after recent years when the company has not seen its normal strength with moviegoers.
