It’s been a big day for Disney news today. The Disneyland Resort teased the return of the popular Paint the Night parade and a release date for the live-action Lilo & Stitch was announced. On top of all of that, Freakier Friday also now has a theatrical release date! In a post on social media, Disney shared that the sequel to Freaky Friday will be arriving in theaters on August 8, 2025. Along with announcing its release date, an image from the film was also shared:
This time around sees Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan returning to the roles they originated in the 2003 Freaky Friday. In the original, they play a widow named Tess and her daughter Anna. They are going through the challenge of entering a new phase of life after the death of Tess’s husband/Anna’s father. As Tess moves forward with life, they are grappling with the stresses of life they end up switching bodies at the most inconvenient time for both of them. This movie is full of humor and heart and is a favorite of many Disney fans.
This film has Nisha Ganatra directing it. The script was written by Jordan Weiss. It also has Chad Michael Murray returning to reprise the role of Jake, Anna’s original love interest. Other original cast members include Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Michell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. Andrew Gunn and Kristen Burr are producers for the film which has already wrapped production.
While the new film will not be arriving in theaters for nearly a year, the original Freaky Friday is currently streaming on Disney+.
