Disney Cruise Line Conservation Efforts Recognized by Vancouver Port

Vancouver Fraser Port Authority has recognized the Disney Cruise Line for its conservation efforts. This comes in the form of the 2025 Blue Circle Award from the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority. This honor was given to Disney Cruise Line for its “continued participation in the port’s voluntary EcoAction Program and commitment to operating responsibly.”

Michaela Whitaker, business support manager, and Heleane Fineberg, manager of port planning and operations, both from Disney Cruise Line, accept award from Cathy McLay, chair of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority’s board of directors and Peter Xotta, president and CEO of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority.

The Blue Circle Award is given to members of the shipping and cruise industry for their environmental leadership through practices that reduce emissions and their environmental impact. This is not the first time that the Disney Cruise Line has been recognized with this award. In fact, it has now earned this distinction 13 times. This is a well-deserved honor that demonstrates Disney’s continued efforts to meet environmental standards that are established by the Port of Vancouver.

One of the key parts of Disney’s initiative in Vancouver is the use of shore power, when available. By using the port’s shoreside electrical grid while docked, the Disney Wonder can shut down its engines and reduce emissions significantly while it is in port.

Moving Forward in Vancouver

Disney Cruise Line continues to grow its presence in Vancouver. As it does this, the company continues to be dedicated to working alongside the port to support responsible operations and environmental stewardship. These are values that are consistent with the entirety of Disney Cruise Line and also The Walt Disney Company at large.

This season, the Disney Magic has joined the Disney Wonder in Alaska sailings out of Vancouver. This is the first time that two Disney Cruise Line ships are operating in the area while also continuing to prioritize sustainability at port.

Disney’s Commitment to Sustainability

This most recent recognition is one more indicator that shows Disney Cruise Line’s broader commitment to sustainable practices across its fleet and operations. The Disney Cruise Line was ranked number 7 on the Forbes Best Brands for Social Impact list. This also reflected the company’s ongoing dedication to sustainability and responsible business practices. This recognition comes at a time when the Disney Cruise Line is undergoing a substantial expansion. Currently, the fleet has grown to eight ships, with five more planned by 2031. The next ship to join the fleet will be the Disney Believe. It is scheduled to launch in 2027.

Throughout its history and now as it substantially grows, the Disney Cruise Line continues to remain focused on minimizing its environmental impact. As the fleet continues to expand, Disney will continue to advance initiatives that reduce emissions, conserve energy, minimize waste, and protect the world’s oceans and wildlife!

Disney continues to be a leading example of how a business can be operated successfully while also being dedicated to the future health of our planet. This recognition is just one indicator of the many different ways Disney Cruise Line does this.
