Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month - Downtown Disney District

Disneyland Resort Celebrates Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

The Disneyland Resort is celebrating Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month with a display in Downtown Disney District. The display can be found across from World of Disney near the Starbucks/Naples in Downtown Disney District. It includes some beautiful and vibrant floral arrangements that surround a sign encouraging people to “Celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month.”

The Daps Magic team stopped by the Disneyland Resort on Sunday and took the following video and photos of this display. Check them out here:

Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month recognizes the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islander descent to the United States. President Jimmy Carter signed a joint resolution establishing Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week in 1978. In 1990, Congress passed a law expanding the observance to a full month. Two years later, in 1992, May was officially designated as an annual, permanent commemorative month. The month of May is chosen to commemorate the first arrival of Japanese immigrants to the United States in 1843. May 1869 was also when the First Transcontinental Railroad (Golden Spike Day) was completed, built largely by Chinese immigrant laborers.

Today, Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month is celebrated with events, exhibits, and educational programs at various institutions, including the Smithsonian, the Library of Congress, and the National Archives. Local communities often celebrate with cultural festivals, educational initiatives, and culinary events.

What do you think of this display for this month at Downtown Disney District? Have you seen it in person? Be sure to stop by and check it out and grab a picture with it during May!
