Last year, Muppet*Vision 3D ended its run at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It closed to make way for a new Monsters, Inc. area in the park that will include a suspended coaster that will recreate the world of Monstropolis, particularly the door vault. With the closure of Muppet*Vision 3D, it was known that Disney had preserved the film. Brian Henson, the son of The Muppets creator Jim Henson, revealed that this preservation will be made available for Apple Vision Pro VR Headsets and then, at a later date, other VR headsets.
Henson revealed the plans for Muppet*Vision 3D during a Q&A session at a performance of Puppet Up! He was asked about the show’s future. He jokingly replied, “It’s better than it not coming to VR,” the Daily Dot shared. Henson also shared the following about Muppet*Vision 3D:
- It was thoroughly captured by Disney for VR
- Users will be able to sit in any seat to watch the show in VR
- He is in favor of the show being presented in this way
What isn’t known is when this show will be released on Apple Vision Pro VR Headsets or other VR devices. This isn’t a ton of news that wasn’t known. It was already revealed that the film was recorded with Disney Cast Members in May 2025. The attraction/show then closed on June 7, 2025. Soon after, Lisa Henson, the CEO of The Jim Henson Company, confirmed that the show had been documented with VR cameras, and talks were underway for how to adapt it. This reaffirmed a statement made by Disney when it announced the closure of the attraction in late 2024. At the time, Disney said, “As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.”
While Muppet*Vision 3D is no longer available in the Disney Parks, it is not the end of the road for The Muppets in the parks and beyond. The recent release of The Muppet Show special event on ABC and Disney+ has been met with great enthusiasm by fans. This comes ahead of the new iteration of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Later this year, it will open with a new theme with The Muppets. There are also hopes that the positive reaction to The Muppet Show special event will lead to more episodes or a series pickup.
At this time, neither Disney, The Jim Henson Company, nor Apple has made any official announcements regarding the release of Muppet*Vision 3D on Apple Vision Pro VR Headsets. This means there isn’t an official confirmation at this point or an official release date. What the comments from Brian Henson give, however, is hope for one in the future.
